I have to agree when you read time after time that this is the "Flagship" of Ford. I like my L but the door crack, clunk, plug blowing, and whatever else there might be SHOULD have been fixed. Did I not read that SVT hoped to improve this over time with input from the owners? I did but I just didn't keep every blow hard article. Like I said I like my L. No real trouble with 19k. and I would be up the creek if it did die. One thing for sure I won't get rid of this 01 to get the upcoming potential Lighting. Way too ugly.

Come and get it.

thanks

Thanks for the kind words RED 02. Actually there isnt much to tell other than what I told in the first post. Un modded, just cruzin.
This was actually not my first thread. I had a 99L also and posted quite a bit under another name. When I changed location and server for some reason I couldn't log on so I re registered.
Anyways, I really love this 01. Im just a little pissed at the moment. Im sure I will end up keeping it and just keep having it fixed.

Why are you guys being hard on this guy. Ford should do a recall for this defect and this guy has a right to be pissed. Are you guys just Ford apologizers or Ford stock holders?

Boy, I'm telling ya, it's getting pretty dangerous around here lately. An "L" owner comes here to post information related to a problem he is having, and a few of you eat him alive for no apparent reason other than to prove you can.

I don't care if it is his first post, or his 9,000 post. Post count doesn't mean squat, and calling the guy a "troll" is just plain rude. I re-read his posts several times and can't see any reason for attacking him. We have members here who take Ford's name in vain daily, and I don't see anyone going after them.

ZZap, I've also had dealings with Atascadero's service department. Not bad, you should be okay there. Please let us all know how you are treated.

ZZAPP,

Did you hear any tell-tale sounds before it blew? Just this past Friday, I heard an exhaust-leak type sound coming from the driver's side of my engine. When I pulled all of the plugs, I found that the #8 (driver's side near firewall) was less than hand tight. I tightened it and the tapping went away. Sorry to hear about your trouble.

Glad you heard it and got it fixed, your next post would have been similar to this topic

STOP IT ... Im getting misty ..... Im a new Ford owner and I like the info on this board and when I see a thread about a blown plug I am very interested in the details and how they apply to my truck. So if I have made you sulk.....well its only because most posts concerning blown plugs are not the one and only post from the forum member. Since you have posted here before then you understand( being cautious )about a first time poster on an important subject, when you have no details.

Please let us know what the dealer says ... how long ago did this happen?

It's a real cruel world............if you have such low confidence, it sounds like you should just get rid of it now.........suck it up........cut your losses and move on.

I don't understand all your complaining.........when you have not even given anyone a chance to make it right yet ???

Keep a crappy attitude and you probably will not gain any friends.........'cept for the others that sound alot like you.
JMHO

Like it or not.........I said it. I'm done here.
Regardless of if it's covered under warranty, it's still a huge PITA. Have you ever had warranty work done? It's no pleasure putting up with the dealer. They never deliver when they say they will, you of course wont find out until you drive all the way up there and turn in your rental Ford Focus, that they had to order another part and it wont be there for two days, Heaven forbid they call you and let you know these things.

It's no fun having to take time out of your day to get something taken care of when it should have been fixed when they knew it was a problem.

He is right in the fact that they should offer at least a dealer program to check the plugs at a certain interval, and if it spits out a plug, under warranty or not they should fix it. Ever wonder why there were so many acronyms for F.O.R.D ?.......bacuase they've earned them.

Iam sure your pissed, know I would be. But since its a know problem, having the plugs checked, by yourself or a mechanic, is no big deal in my book.
Yours is an 01, so you get a loaner and it gets fixed for free, right? Right!
Sorry for you misfoutunes, but it sure is a fun truck to drive

Found this post from 7-2000 about plugs:

Best move you will ever make with your "L". Every new car I have ever purchased had the wrong plug gaps, and timing. First thing I did was check the plugs and 6 out of 8 were wrong, two were loose, and one was closed completely as if it had been dropped or something. Pull'em, gap'em, and return them back into the same hole you got them out of. You won't be sorry you did, and the time is worth just knowing what they were set on. I call it "knowledge" some call it peace of mind.
This was destined to be a problem from day one. Loose plugs from the factory. If you haven't chacked yours, your asking for trouble. BTW its not just the Lightning, its all the 5.4 engines with the aluminum heads.

So let me get this straight.......If a new member decides to pick a "serious" subject matter for his first post, he is by your definition a Troll and as such is not to be trusted or treated fairly.

The only thing worse than poor behavior is attempting to justify it........

Hey, finally some friendly voices.

I have been following this board since 00 when I had my 99. I just haven't posted much because I didn't have much to contribute. When I did it was under whitelight. But I did learn alot from some of the very knowledgeable guys here, thank you.
My 99 , by the way, had to have the engine replaced due the "piston slap". My o1 Cobra had its warrantee voided due to a set of Steeda pulleys. So I am not unfamiliar with Ford "service."
I love the cars, I just dont think I like the company. I'm a pretty decent wrench turner myself and used to be an engineer, so I under stand that a complicated hi-po vehicle can have its problems. As I said before, its not the vehicle I upset with, its fords lack of correct action to remedy the problem.

I ll keep you posted on my progress.

Thanks

Peter

Not baggin ya dude..

But every auto manufacturer has a Service Department out there somewhere.

Its hard to back a statement that there are alot of high performance vehicles out there that are trouble free..That is just not possible.

But I do know your feeling when you have trouble with something and it makes you hate it terribly

I used to work for a rental car company and we carried every major brand..Even Lexus's and BMW's

They all found their way to the shop..EVEN THE TOYOTA'S!!

Now they werent High Perf cars..But still I lost all my bias's towards brands after that.

We had an 01 Silverado that lost its tranny at 8,000 miles and an 01 Ram that lost its Tranny at 6,000
But no Ford probs(J/K I thought that would be funny)

Anyway good luck with what you want to do..It is frustrating!!

Lightning problems

What are the main recurring/Lighning specific problems. How can they be avoided. ie: sparkplug problems, clunk (what is it?). I just want to catch any potential problems before they get worse. Thanks

Take the time to do a search on the specific things you mentioned, ie, "clunk" etc. You should find tons of info from many different members who have experienced the problem and found the right "fix". If you can't find what you need through the search mode, try a new post. There are lots of helpful members who have all the answers you will need, but the help key is there to allow you the freedom to do your own research and come to your own conclusion.......kind of a learning process. Good luck.
