Lightning vs Camaro SS
I think I'm pretty qualified to answer this question.....
Like the others said....Driver plays a big part w/ LS1 Fbodies. With a competent driver, (and all other things being equal)...the Fbody will win, both on the street and at the track.
However, we all know that not all drivers are created equal, so there is a very good chance that the Fbody driver will make a mistake. If that happens the L' should be right there with him.

There are tons of F-Bodies around Birmingham and "most" I have seen or driven will average around mid 13's stock. Most F-bodies have traction problems as well, they are hell to hook up on street tires.
With drag radials, cool air and a good driver I have seen 12's. My son's car is a '95 LT1 with Headers / MSD / Drag Radials / Cold Air Kit / Lower Control Arms and we got a best of 12.9 (no internal engine mods). Two of his friends have LS1's. One is a '99 Trans Am with a best time with cam/mods of 13.0, the other is a 2002 SS and has run a best of 13.2.
I was able to get 13.509 @ 102.9 out of my 2000 L this weekend, it has an airfilter mod only. I think I could knock a bit off that with decent tires, I was running 32 PSI on worn out F1's. So it is pretty darn close and I like the fact that the Lightning can hang right in there with 1200 or so more pounds and then I can tow an F-Body home when they snap that piece of crap 10 bolt rear end! (We are on our third ring gear and pinion, gotta save up for 12 bolt or a ford 9"!)
Pulley / Chip / Air Filter and watch out!

Anyway, my car is not completely stock but close. I ran 12.90@108.85 with a catback, airlid and free ram air mod(Opened up bottom of airbox). My 99 WS6 ran 12.97 with just the catback mod. These were all in the cool weather of fall and spring. Summer time I was running low 13's in the WS6. Stock for stock, the SS is faster. As for the driver, I have an automatic and run 1.9 60' times all day long in any weather. I only run street tires at 26 PSI. With the juice, I'm at 12.20@117.18 . Jerry will get me this summer for sure as I am not doing any mods right now
Hey, nice forum by the way. !!

F-Bodies are easy to get up to about 380 HP. Look at the Blackbird or Berger SS here www.gmmginc.net
If you want to go mod-for-mod, F-Bodies have tricks and bolt-ons too...
Stock for stock, with the same driver, the SS will win every time.

STOCK FOR STOCK????? Who cares about stock for stock..........how many people that buy these vehicles, and want to race them, either on the highway or on the track, are really gonna leave them STOCK????????
As with any type of comparable vehicle, it's up to how much you spend on it, and how good you can drive with what you modded..........There's guys out there that can run a mid 13 stock, and after spending a few thousands of dollars, they still can't break 12's cause they can't drive for ***** (I'm not saying on this or any other board, but I'm saying it happens).
With the versatility, ease, and relative inexpensiveness to mod these two types of muscle cars, it's a wonder everyone around isn't running modded.
I just think that ANY of you who are fortunate enough to own both are lucky ba$tards!!
Here's to American Muscle (as long as it's not a DODGE!!!!)

I agree with Miami. Its all in what you've done and how much you've spent, and how well you can drive. I took a stock T/A when my truck had 1500 miles on it (bone stock), but I guess that was up to his driving ability........
Now vettes and some vipers are not a problem........but if they say 'lengenfelter' on them, I probably wont 'hang'

My 01 Lightning has never lost to a stock F-bodyand only 2 moded. Have never lost to a C-5. I have seen them beat their dash with their fist and accuse me of having N20. I pull over and open the hood just to pi$$ them off more showing I don't need it to beat a vette or f-body.
I was at Milan dragway most of last summer and never seen a stock LS1, M6 f-body do 12's stock. Never!! I still think that GM gave Evan Smith a loaded car. Not one has come close to his time here at Michigan elevation in stock trim on stock tires in cool air when I've been at the track. If they do it's not stock. Just my "Observation."
