Wood trim kits
Wood trim kits
Any advice on fitting wood trim kits?
The time is rapidly approaching when I return to the US of A to see my truck again.
I am sure I will want to do something new to it and the wood trim kit seems one way to go.
Has anyone used them?
Do they look OK or are they obviously an add on stuck on...if you see what I mean!
Are there kits of varying quality?
Any advice appreciated.

my mom has the wood trim kit on her truck...she ordered hers with it.....it isn't real wood, but looks nice....I want to do the same to mine, but they don't make a kit for my truck because of the climate control. I don't know why I can't use the standard one because it doesn't cover the senser....I will find out the specifics, but you have an '01 truck so you don't have to consider this.
I have the Oxford Burlwood Ford dash kit in mine, and I like mine very much. So many of the aftermarket kits are just crappy quality, but the Ford one really is nice, and it's not too overbearing. The radio bezel is different on the 2001 and 2002 screws, so that is why it won't work Sarah. I also noticed that the 2003's come with the wood dash kit standard on the King Ranch, so you may be able to order one of those when they come out.
Anyway, you can check out my gallery for the pictures I have of it. For some reason I can't find the picture of the radio bezel piece, but the four window switch pieces are there. As soon as I get my photos developed I will put that other up.

One thing I noticed with alot of the aftermarket kits (namely the ones that I've seen on ebay etc) is that they didn't come with a piece that would cover where the 4wd/2wd selector **** is located on the 4wd versions.
Thus, I'd have this stupid looking hole on my dash that had nothing covering it.

My complaint is most of them are like 125 pieces or something insane like that. They have pieces that cover every louver in the A/C ducts and all that crap. I don't want something that ornate. I like the simple three piece that doesn't cover much but just gives an accent to the already nice interior.
Hey dufunnel...
Could you do me a favor? When you get a chance, could you take a few pics of the interior? I haven't looked at your gallery yet but I will...
Also, I think you've posted this in the past but, I can't seem to find it...
Do you have the FORD PART NUMBER for the kit you have? Like you, I don't want anything super ornate. The ones I've seen on ebay; LIKE THIS:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1761784485
Look too ornate to me as well... you'll notice, that kit is only 40 pieces but, still, over the vents and all that jazz? Seems like a little much to me too...
Also, do the paterns/colors/textures represented on this page:
http://alkaplus.com/cgi-bin/catalog.cfm?action=finish
represent the color of your interior?
Anyone seen any pics of a kit inside a chestnut KR? I'm worried about having a dark wood color with the darker color and it not looking 'right'.
Thoughts? Insight? Dirty Jokes? Dirty Remarks?
Thanks folks...

There are a few pics in my gallery, but they are only of the window switch covers. For some reason my radio bezel picture didn't make it up there and I can't seem to find it. However, it covers the entire radio bezel piece except the vents and small pieces directly underneath the vents. I know someone posted a link to it around here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. The color is the Oxford Burlwood, and it matches best with that same color in the link you posted. It complements the interior very well. I don't think it would clash with your exterior. It may actually match that better than the interior. If I can find the picture of the bezel, I will post it. If you have the accessories catalog, I believe it shows it in there as well.

I don't believe the accessory catalog that I have actually shows it. Does the one taht you have just 'stick' on? Had any problems with it?
I saw the pics of the switch covers but, I'd really like to see one of the bezel. I've tried a google search on the web to see if I could uncover any photos but, all I could find were these photos of the super ornate set-ups. If you get a chance and you don't mind, a pic of that bezel would be great. I'd like to accent the inside a tad.
Didn't the 02's (or is it the 03's) come with wood trim? Is it the same kit?
Thanks man... I appreciate it.

It's the 03's. I don't know whether it will be the kit or whether it will be a more permanent replacement of the switch plates and bezel. I won't get to posting anything for a week or two, as I am going out of town for awhile without the truck. I probably won't even be checking these boards for that time. They just stick on, and I didn't have any problem with them. Just from time to time the driver's side switch cover pops up in one place from the heat, so I just stick it back down. No other problems though. I am curious to see the kit in the 03's to see if they just use the same one.
I will post one when I can unless you can get skagel to get one of her mom's truck. I'm not sure if she has the Ford one too, but it may help. I like the look of it. It's simple yet sophisticated so it looks like it was made for our interior.
