Question. Is the lid for the Expedition console the same size as the lid's on our SCREW consoles? I'm kicking around the idea of tracking down a beige console (same color as the one that's stock) and just removing the KR leather covered lid.

Can it be done? Anyone have this? Any other considerations to make before I look into this more?

oh no you don't...you can't go stealing my idea.....as far as I know they are the same size. my b/f is researching it for me right now.....just so ya know what I am doing with mine.....I am putting four switches in that extra space the expe console has and my gps......now you know don't you go trying to be like my Tomas because you can't....charcoal blue is far more superior to the plain and ordinary chestnut!

j/k....ya know I have also fallen in love with Logical's nameless truck.....afterall it is now on my desktop screen.

 

Tell ya what. I won't mount any switches or GPS in mine (I have dual degrees in Environmental Geology and Geography--I don't need a stinking GPS--just position me anywhere on the earth and I can read the Lat/Long and translate it to UTC just by reading the angle of the sun and the slant of the earth).

Lemme know what you find out if you don't mind... and, well... if you do mind, tell me anyway.

I hate to pop your bubble but I don't think the Expy console lid is even close to the width of the S'Crew version. If I'm wrong, you can buy me a six pack to let you know how sorry I'd be.

Which brings up another question. Are the seats in our trucks a different size than other SCREWs front captains chairs?

As a current owner of a 2001 Ford King Ranch Edition F150 Supercrew, and as a former owner of a 1997 Ford Expedition, I feel that I am more than qualified to answer the question of whether the console lid is of the same size. The unforunate thing is I cannot I can't remember how big the console lid is on the Expedition. I hope that helps settle things once and for all, and that intelligent decisions can be made as a direct result of my input. you are welcome.

Since I was one of the first to do this mod I guess I am as much of an expert as anyone.

The '97-'98 Expy console lids are narrower to allow the use of the armrests



The '99 and up lids are wider because there are no armrests

It looks like your lids are not as long as the Expy lids. You be the judge...

 

From the looks of the pictures our lid is the same size as the 99 expy lid. But looks can be decieving.

 

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the 'it won't fit' conclusion. It really looks like it's more narrow because of the arm rests.

Also, looking at the console in the expy pictures above, it's a two-tone plastic. Not sure I'd want the dark grey in there with all beige. I think I'm slowly ruling this thought out of my head....

The consoles above are all tan not grey. The older Expy consoles are two-toned but I am not sure about the newer ones because the newer model F-150's and Expys look like they are all one color inside. The Navigator ones have a leather lid and are a little nicer:



Why don't you post a message on either the Expedition forum or the Lightning forums (a lot of L owners have doen this mod) and ask for someone to measure the width and length of their lid? Just make sure that the have a lid from a '00-'02 (without armrests).

Can someone measue the width and length of your KR lid? I will measure mine this weekend and let you know what size mine is. The newer style Expy lids are definately wider than mine is but yours looks closer to the width of the '97-'99 width. Your seats look wider than the Expy and regular F-150 seats too (wider side bolsters).
