Leather Conditioner...
I found one measley place in this damn town that has 4-way and all they had in stock was the cleaner. (which might come in handy I guess) but, NO CONDITIONER.
I've found the 4-way stuff online a few places however, shipping is a rip-off. I mean, the stuff is fairly inexpensive (less than $5 per bottle) but shipping is $9. TALK ABOUT A RIP-OFF!! I might order a couple of bottles so that I can offset that colon exam on shipping.
PetVetSupply.com seems kinda high on this stuff... not sure on the amount that comes in that bottle but...
http://www.farmbid.com/SuperStore/Su...?ProductID=417
It's only two-fitty-fi.

HUCKED ON MAFF WURKD FUR MEE!
Actually, I still think I'm right. Petvet has TWO individual products on that page. One (I believe) is the 8 oz, the other is the QUART size. The QT size is $7.98.
Anyone ever tried LEXOL Conditioner?

Mike,
Lets see, $2.55*4 or $10.20 vs $7.98. Depending on the shipping and taxes, if you have to pay tax, it looks like a no brainer to get the 4 way from PetVet.
Thanks,
Hey Rock,
I thought for sure you was going to try and correct my spellin' 'cause apparently your crack is much better than mine 'cause that writting was while I was coming off my high, ROFLMAO

Hey you KROKS
I have been following the debate on leather cleaning with interest.
I will be doing my interior when I return to the States in the Fall.
However I have been surprised to see no mention anywhere of one particular product.
CONNOLLY hide food.
Now don't scoff or immediately dismiss this suggestion because of the connection but......
Connolly is the firm in London that has scoured the world for many years looking for the very best hides for RR and Bentley products, Aston Martin and other fine automobiles.......hence they produce the cream hide food to treat the interiors of the cars.
It is a cream consistency product in a tub.
I have been using it for many years just once a year...to "feed" the leather.
It isn't cheap, though not outrageous either....but it is the best and most tried product for use in fine automobiles.
(Aston Martin, Lambo etc. all use it)
It is easy to apply and you only need small quantities...it leaves absolutely no residue or smell.
On the UK and Ireland 'Yahoo' search I very quickly brought up...
http://www.leathershop.co.uk/category.asp?ID=16
(£8.75 for 284ml) (That's about $12.00, but a tub like that will last for several years)
There are lots of UK sites giving advice about leather treatment but I am sure if you do a search on the net or check out any RR or Bentley main dealer you will find the product over there.
You will not be disappointed, since I believe that some of the products you have been discussing are not specifically for vehicle interiors.....hence for example the smell that has been mentioned.
(when anyone finds an outlet let me know...it will save carrying a tub over....besides which security will probably find some obscure reason to confiscate it !)

Okay Lenny,
Here's the first link I found on the net.
http://properautocare.com/hf-01.html
Looks pretty good actually but they don't say where they are located. Okay I finially found their info page,
http://properautocare.com/contactus.html
I'll keep looking.
Found another one in Greenfield MA.
http://www.autowax.com/connolly.htm
Even more!http://www.ferrariclub.com/faq/leathercare.html
This guy claims the Connolly hide food goes rancid in two years and actually smells like a cow, hmmmmm.
http://www.carcareonline.com/leather_care.html
Damn everyone and their opinions, I guess the best thing is to take a chance on some product and then each to his own, hey?

That comment about going rancid is a load of "naughty bits".
As I say I've been using the stuff more years than I care to remember and been entering vintage and modern cars at the very highest level concours using it.
If the top isn't screwed properly on the jar, a 'skin' will develop over the cream, but that isn't a problem.
Sounds like the person who made that remark is simply trying to promote his own product instead.
Over here we have very strong "trades description" acts...and if someone made a remark like that they would have to prove it in court !
Tell you what Dave......and I have no interest in the product commercially.....if you get some and use it, and it isn't the best thing for the use you are putting it to.....ie car seats....then I'll refund the cost to you...how's that!

Ya know, you gotta like a man that puts his money where his mouth is.... Pretty impressive. However, I'm assuming that he'll buy you new seats, center console covers, and a new steering wheel if you bumfuggle your leather. Or, is he just talking about a can/bottle of what you'd like to own... or, refund your purchase price of the Conlley. Hrrm... As I sit here and ponder the preface of "the south end of a north pointing cow", I still haven't managed to come up with a clear winner in this race for conditioning. I think I'm going to order the conlley, the lexol, and the 4-way and do a head to head test. Sure, my truck might smell like the air downwind of a chemical manufacturing plant but hey, you all will be better off right? I'm ready to put this baby to bed and call it a day...
Y'know....I knew it woudn't be 5 minutes before someone from the land that made litigation an art form yet way of life all in one....came back and suggested I be responsible if the whole deal went pear shaped.....well tough titty....of course I won't.
Limey I may be...idiot I'm not.
Seriously though (hang on that was serious), all hide food should do is be absorbed into the leather and keep it supple.
It should not stain or smell or color the leather in any way.
HOWEVER....I do have to say that the KR leather does not look or feel quite the same as leather I am used to.
Now don't ask me to explain the whys and wherefores...I don't think I can.
I have had leather in many cars for many years.
Currently I have a new S Type Jaguar with ivory leather, and a Bentley with beige leather.
I have just sold a 1936 Rolls Royce 25/30 that had leather to the front chauffeurs compartment. (West of England Cloth to the rear).
All those leathers and ones in numerous other cars I have owned (The KR is number 58 !) seemed to have a slightly more open and soft grain than the leather in the KR.
It may be to do with the Santa Gertrudis cattle that it is from or the way it is treated.
I would love to know more about that as it was the first thing that struck me the first time I ever saw inside a KR....
"Hmmmm.... that leather looks gorgeous....but odd !!"
Do any KR owners live in a larger city where there just might be a trim shop used to handling high quality leather ....take your KR's there and get an opinion.
I would love to know.
If mine was over here I would love to take it to Connolly Brothers in London and ask for their opinion.
The KR leather is so very smooth.....just ripe for someone to drag a zipper or stud from the back of a pair of jeans across, and leave a lovely scratch or even tear in it.
As you know from a previous post, I have made the point that Connolly Brothers obtain their hides from Scandinavia where there are no barbed wire fences to scratch the leather while it is still alive.
Ford point out that each KR is unique because of the markings on the leather....now one could see that as an excuse for not taking extra care when selecting hides....or as I hope is the case with my truck at least.....just some small imperfections that one can just about justify as "making it unique".
Don't I go on !!

I HAVE LEXOL IN MY POSSESSION!
I've finally found a place that carries LEXOL. I have yet to find a store locally that stocks 4-way. I plan on conditioning my leather THIS WEEKEND and will post personal opinions and results.
Until then, wait in suspense for my analytical results....
Until then, wait in suspense for my analytical results....
It's not exactly a 'heat wave' here in Louisville, Kentucky. As I type, it's 50 degrees Fahrenheit (Lent, that's about 10 degrees Celsius - I want to be kind to our fine friends over seas and elsewhere in the world that adhere to the metric system - Yes, we're totally bass-ackwards in the USA). What I did last time (which seemed to work fairly well) was to face the vehicle into the sun, crank er' up, run the heat on 'full-tilt-boogie', and kick the seat warmers on. Naturally, I kicked the hood open and cracked the sunroof to avoid overheating.
Like I said, I'll report back with my likes and dislikes on this product. Doesn't smell to god awful bad (like the Ford stuff) so, I don't expect to have many complaints. Lexol has been making this stuff for YEARS and it's VERY well recieved by the 'saddlery community'. I am still interested in trying that '4-way' stuff and the Connley (if that's how you spelled it). Like I've said, I'll let you all know how it turns out...

Hey Rock,
Check this out;
50°F = 10°C Wow, How'd I do that!
Also,
What kind of hammer did you use to crack the glass in your sun roof and how did you crack the aluminum hood, seemed like it should've just bent vs. crack? Man, I got to learn more about materials and stuff. Engineering school is just to incomplete these days
Maybe all this crack talk is linked to something else....I dunno.
I still haven't gotten any 4 way stuff either so don't feel too bad. I've looked up and know where to buy all the stuff we've mentioned but I just haven't called and gave them my order.
