King Ranch - Mods & Suggestions

I've had my truck for a few months now and, well, the time has come to start planning out some modifications to make it my own. A few ideas I'm thinking of are:
  1. Rhino Lining
  2. Bed Lid - deciding between retractable, hard cover, and folding; I like retractable but not sure if I like the amount of room they take up in the bed. I had a hard cover on my 2001 but want better access to bed.
  3. Lower grille insert - any suggestions here?
  4. Window tint
  5. Install VHF Radio & Lighting Switches - this will take some time to do it right and neatly
  6. CAI
  7. Tuner - at some point

Any suggestions on what may have worked, or not worked, for you will help me out. I'll likely do the lining and lid first, just to improve my use of the truck for all that I do. Other things will get done as time and $$$ allow.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Do a search in this forum for Line-X as opposed to Rhino for the lining. Several people did the Line-X thing and they were VERY happy with it. From what I've read, it seems to be a superior product.

I got a lower valence honeycomb grill for mine, and it matches the upper honeycomb nicely except it's all black which matches the "corner" pieces down there. It installed very easily with clips (no drilling) and is very secure. It was from Moss Motors, and cost $38.95. The part number was 337-055. Your model year may need a different style.

Go into the "How-To" forum and read about homemade CAI's there. Personally, I don't really know that the commercial ones are worth what they cost, which is a lot.

If you spray a liner in the bed get it color matched to the truck. Looks sharp.

LED tape lights under the side lips of the bed will light up the bed at night and will be unnoticeable until you turn them on.

Aux reverse lights will really help backing up. Especially after you tint your side windows. They also aid if you have a trailer hitched.

I agree w/KR Glenn about the matching bed liner.
I have mine painted to match the Tan in my 2 tone. It is very nice IMO.
I have found the lighter color helps bounce the light around when my cover is closed.
I have some photos in my album.

I plan on installing a LED rope light in the bed this fall.

Thanks for the replies guys! All good ideas and things I'll look at before proceeding.

JackandJanet: I'll check into the LineX as well. Had Rhino in the past and liked it but always open to new things. Don't know if there's a dealer/installer near me but I'll look. It's funny you mentioned it as well, but I've been looking at a bunch of the forums on how to make your own CAI and must say I'm impressed with how easy and cost efficient it seems.

K/R Glenn & MnBrdDawg: I'm considering the color matched lining as well, which I think would look sharp. I also like the idea of the LED lights in the bed and have started searching forums for ideas and comparisons of what some have done already. Also, backup lights are a definite as well.

Now that it's starting to get nicer here I'll be starting the process of these mods in the upcoming weeks. I'll be sure to post pics as I go.

Thanks again!
