Unhappy Dealership got power steering fluid on steering wheel

All, I have been having fits with my 2008 KR for the last few months. The good news is that I think the dealership finally fixed the steering that a different dealership initially messed up (replaced rack 3 times). My truck finally feels safe to drive again. Unfortunately, they also 1. scratched my door, 2. punctured one of my tires, and 3. got greasy power steering fluid on my steering wheel.

I want to focus on #3... With some HOT water and a nice clean towel, I was able to get the black nasty greasy stuff out of the wheel, but where it was most apparent, the leather is no longer as dark. It literally is as if the grease and fluid zapped the dye in the leather. I treated it with KR Leather Conditioner, but it hasn't helped... when first applied, the faded section gets VERY dark (darker than the rest of the whee), but after it dries, it still looks faded.

Is anyone aware of anything that will bring the color back to my wheel?

Please no comments to "take it back to the dealer," I will only go that route if nothing else will work. Everytime I go near a Ford dealer they screw something up on my truck.

I think my "Satin Shene" treatment would probably do pretty well, but, I think the dealer should replace the wheel. The trouble is, I imagine any rescue attempts you try are going to let the dealer off the hook - he'll say YOU caused the damage.

You can do a search on "satin shene" in these forums to find posts on this by me, as well as a picture of the wheel. You can even see it and the top of the console (which both had the treatment) in this thread: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ki...onditions.html

I agree, the more you try to help them, the less liable it makes them.

For reference for the next time something like this happens... you should have mentioned it right when you saw it after they finished working on it and gave the truck to you... just by leaving the dealer with the truck (which you probably did since you are posting about it) you lessened their liability in fixing their mistake in my opinion.

Hi all, I agree, I should have shown the dealership ASAP, but it was dark out when I picked up the truck... also, it just looked dirty. I am not one to complain about dirt really, I am fairly good at cleaning cars. Anyway, does anyone else have any ideas?

I currently have a case open with Ford as my truck has been in the shop since August 4. They are supposed to call me on Wednesday to see how the truck is driving and I plan to share this with them, and mention the scratch on the door handle and the nice gouge in the sidewall. At this point they say there is no way that they will buy it back for the months of steering issues that I have had, but I plan to ask them to fix everything else none the less.
