Lenny -

What's happening? Has your Expy made it out of the "Colonies" and into the "Homeland"?

Any unexpected hiccups?

Remember, we (nosey blokes) want to know! (Since we're glad we're not doing it)!

The "Charleston Express" docked in the UK on Saturday.
Tomorrow hopefullly I rent a van to drive down south to collect all our belongings that are in the Expy (That I hope are still there!).
Then when its empty they can get at the electrics to do the necessary work.
For instance the sockets for towing are totally different from the US and of course the indicator lights have to be amber as well.
Then its a case of waiting for customs to give it the all clear.
I'll let you know what transpires.
I hope its not been 'dinged'.
A big vehicle in a small container is not the best recipe.
As it is they have to employ really skinny guys who have to climb out of the window once its in the container. The doors can't be opened (No space) and they can't get out the back as it's stuffed full of all our things!

So, I (we've) been patiently wating for more news.

How's the Expy? Did your things packed inside make it ok? The lack of news makes me nervous.

What's happening, Lenny?

Hi
Thanks for asking !
I went down south 2 weeks ago and retrieved the contents of the Expy. Everything was fine....even the bottle of Tequila made it unbroken.....In fact there wasn't a breakage, and that included pictures with glass in them.
My only problem was a computer I brought back was supposed to be dual voltage, but even though I switched it to UK 240 volt setting it still went "BANG" in a big way when I switched it on !
Fortunately a local company put in a new supply with no problem and it now works fine.
Tomorrow is the big day when I get a train down south and collect the Expy to bring home to Wales at last.
The delay has been in customs releasing the paperwork for the car, thus enabling it to be fitted with UK plates, though I will keep the TX plates on until the long arm of the law stops me.
Next week I hope to post a picture with the car next to a Welcome to Wales sign !!

Among the sheep perhaps? (The picture I mean).

Great to hear from you Lenny and it's great that everythng made it safely. Now we know that Fords make excellent packing crates for transcontenental shipments!

Sounds like the vehicle modificatons went pretty quicklly. It must be a fairly "standard" process.

I have the truck back at home here in Wales now.

I have been trying to post some pictures but keep getting a strange error page...is there a known problem?

The truck is is fine shape though I found one small ding on the front edge of the step bar...I expect it happened loading in the container. Anyway its already touched in.
The total cost of shipping and preparing for UK use, and registering for the roads here was $6000.00. The pain is at the pump though.....The first fill cost me $220.00 !!!

I will post a picture as soon as the technical problem with the website is resolved.

There doesn't appear to be any problems here, posting pictures, Lenny. At least people on the "Appearance Products " forum seem to be able to do it.

Glad you've got your truck home - that's a BIG hit to the pocketbook!

I can infer you "collect" these things, so resale is not really an issue; but, is there a "market" for vehicles like yours in GB?

Great pictures, Lenny! I see you were experiencing some good old English "sunshine" when the pictures were taken. At least it wasn't the "wet" variety.

We're still waiting for the pastoral one among the sheep though.

I've never been able to post a picture directly, I've always linked to a copy in Photobucket. Isn't this pretty much what everone does? (Remember, I'm a FNG). :o

Since your taillights are still red, was it the front turn signals that had to be changed? And, since my fronts ARE amber, I would have thought yours would have been too.

They didn't have to replace the lenses at the rear......just used amber bulbs inside the lower clear segment.
You might also notice a supplementary rear fog lamp just under the bumper at the right side.
The turn lenses at the front are amber but a small additional side lamp had to be fitted inside the main light cluster.....

If I must I will post a picture with sheep in the near future !
In Powys county where I live sheep outnumber people about 100 to one, so that won't be a problem !!

Thanks for your interest in my adventure with the Expy !!
