Daveman is Here!
Happy New Year everyone,
Daveman here, just wanted to say hi and that I really love the new '08 KR. I had an SUV for several years and was looking forward to the day I got a truck again. The draw back from going from an SUV to a truck is the lack of space but I always seem to get everything crammed into the space. I'm not a covered truck bed kind of truck guy so MY only option is to install a tool box of which I still have from my '05 KR.
Mahogany '08 KR 4x4
Goodyear LT tires
No moon roof
No DVD player for kids (will install later)
Nav Radio
Rear slider
No backup sensors
(will install later)
No backup camera
(will install later)
Short bed
Chrome steps
PS, Lenny, I work with a British Engineer and he mentioned that there are two dishes that British folk eat, one is called Fagots and the other is caled Spotted ****, is there any truth to that or myth?
Rock Pick, where is Troy and some of the other KR oldies?
Later,
~DM~

Yes, I'm afraid they are both true.....
*******......Not best mentioned in polite company.....
If you will insist I will post the recipe but don't blame me if you are then all sick !!!!
Spotted **** is a steamed sponge pudding with currants......The spots are obvious..the **** bit...well...who knows.
Maybe the shape of the pudding.....Nuff said !!!!
Welcome back anyway.
PS And before anyone jumps in about British Food, I am away in South Wales at the moment and for 2 consecutive nights have eaten at restaurants that are as good as any in the world...and I'm a bit of an eating expert as you might remember from our visit to the brewpub !!!

Wow. How do I follow a post like that? LOL! I'm blown away that the word censors built into the site didn't catch a few of those... hahahahaha. In personal company sitting at a bar, I think I'd probably switch into 'wise-***' mode and really hark on a few of Lenny's explanations but, in this company, I think I'll refrain (yet sit here and think what I'd say... HA!).
Dave -- you'll see a few of the old crew poke in from time to time but, as a rule, many (read: most) aren't around. Mike is still on the forum, Skagel will pop in on occasion, Troy -- haven't seen him in a while, dufunnel will pop up on occasion (I think he still has his truck -- it's supercharged now)... there are others.
Great to see you back in the saddle, bud.

I will try to read betwen the lines though and guess you may be carping about the useage of some words.
Those words have been in use in the English Language for centuries before any modern connotations may have been put on them.
Daveman asked a quite reasonable question, and I gave him a straight answer.
If you wish to join in I would politely suggest you should have expanded further on your comment, which appears to be 'barbed' to say the least.
A question was asked and answered.
I would suggest if you are not happy with the answer you do a little research of your own on the internet.
Another answer may be the different perception of words on both sides of the Atlantic.
Often in the past I have used a perfectly acceptable phrase on this side of the pond.....
When relating to something being messed up...we say it is a c*ck up !
If I wrote that word in full the site censor would automatically blank it out.
Maybe the site censor may need to expand its vocabulary.
The problem may be that not only am I from the other side of the Atlantic, but that I am from a generation before words were given double meanings by some who were trying to be clever with words.
Check out the meaning of one of the words in question.....
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2698507.stm
The same will be true if you Google the other word that I suspect may be causing problems.
Another answer may be that Americans often do not have a world perspective believing that that what pertains within your shores equals what the rest of the world thinks and understands.
As you all must surely realise now, the world is changing and that belief is not sustainable any more...even if it was in the first place !!
Having given that reasoning behind what I suspect was the motive for the post and by Brads far more moderate comment, I will now not comment any further and think the subject should be laid to rest.
PS Dave....See what you did coming back !!!!
(That last comment is not serious by the way.......as I think you will know, unlike many others who take things at face value without any thought processes being involved )

John -- No need to get in a tizzy. I think the earlier comment was said 'tounge in cheek' and was likely rummaged beyond it's intended meaning.
No worries, man.
...and, per your request and subtle persuasion, I've split the posts over to this separate thread... Further, I'll forward your thought on 'explanding' the censor-base.
... easy, John... easy!

And thanks for submitting to my subtle persuasion.......now where else can we take this !!?

Level 1 The words American definition can make people become nasty.
Level 2 The food sounds nasty.
Level 3 Spotted **** sounds like an STD which is nasty.
There are even other levels or categories...whatever, I think you get the point. I was not offended. When it comes to words, the only thing that offends me is the Lords name in vain.

OK...Thanks for that...
Partly my fault because in all honesty I hadn't put 2 and 2 together where that Fa**** word was concerned. I have to admit to having heard it in the other context in the past, but never for a moment considered it when replying to Dave's post.
Pax !

Well it's a good thing the rest of us aren't John, because that was one seriously ugly tirade against Americans. Even if some of the criticism is valid, the way in which it was delivered was extremely arrogant and preachy. And totally unprovoked at that. Perhaps you should consider getting yourself a blog to vent that sort of venom? This is, after all, a site having to do with American trucks...

Ugly tirade...venom....?
I don't think so !
I simply said that Americans often do not have a world perspective.
(Have you looked at your own News Broadcasts.....It's almost as though the rest of the world doesn't have any news !)
After 27 years travelling all over the States, meeting thousands of people there, I stand by that comment..though admittedly it is a generalisation.
As for being a truck forum...I think we understand that, but what has often enlivened it in the past has been the diversions into other areas.
In fact in the early days it's what kept it going !
Dare I do it? Skagel would cheer! The applause would be deafening from many...
traveling & generalization

I have read many of your posts, and understand that you live in two different worlds. The UK and the Valley. I travel to the Valley about once a month, and stay at the Embassy Suites in McAllen. At night, I usually venture to one of the many restaurants in the area. My personal favorite is a Argentinian or Venezuelan steak house in Edinburg. Most South American steak houses that I have visited elsewhere are Brazilian. Anywho, I would love to take you and your wife to dinner sometime, and hear stories of your travels. Might even talk KR trucks to! Just bored during the evenings, and found your posts entertaining. Let me know if you would be interested. Thanks
Dead on, Lenny!

We ARE hopelessly isolated in this hemisphere. We haven't a clue what the rest of the world thinks of us and we act like it does not matter. But, what about our dollar's decline against the world markets? What about our diminished influence in global politics? What about our moaning and whining about our inability to compete in the world market? (Many other countries seem to manage).
The simple fact is - we don't have easy access to "world" information. In my travels (now that I've retired from a second career), I've learned that even "third world" countries are far more informed than we are on global events.
In Morocco, any family that can afford a dish (most can) receives 2000+ channels (free of charge). They get anything and everything they want to look at. (They also get government funded education though college - if they pass the entrance exams)! I'm just using Morocco as an example - you could probably put many other countries here.
In my "second career", I taught at a major university in the College of Engineering. The faculty is increasingly more "international". The graduate students are the same. Even the undergraduate student population is becoming more "globally diverse". Americans in this population are becoming a minority (the engineers of the future)! Where does this leave us?
Wake up America! I love you and will die for you, but I can't save you singlehandedly.
And, now that I've really put my foot in it - how about "Bubble and Squeak"? (A delightful pub dish to rival Fish and Chips). There's also "Toad in the Hole", but this is from a slightly different area in the British Isles.
Sorry for the tirade (but I feel better). This thread was hopelessy off course anyway.
- Jack (My opinions are my own)
