Is the Castano Worth It?

So, now that I am considering the King Ranch option, I am starting to think harder about the Castano leather. My boss rides with me to some of the jobsites periodically, and quite frankly, I worry he will destroy the leather. It’s not many times that he spills coffee, or scratches his pencil across the seat, but it does happen, and all it takes is once. He is just rough and careless. As an example, he leaves old banana peels on the floor of his Suburban for weeks - all black and slimy and stinking.

On my trucks, the passenger side chrome nerfs are always scratched because he puts his boots on the chrome to tie them, or just misses the step pad completely when getting in or out. The passenger door has fine scratches around the door handle from him opening the door with a mechanical pencil in his hand, or something else - all, my pet peeves.

What can I say? He holds the title and pays for it, so I’ve got to eat crow. Sometiomes it gets to me. So, the last thing I want to do is have Castano looking like crap. I know the leather treatments take care of scuffs, provided they are not gouges in the leather, but will it protect it enough from spills? Certainly not red Kool-Aid, but water and coffee? Is there something that repels liquids? I’m certainly not perfect, and I have spilled on my Lariat seats before, too. I don’t want a disaster. Is the Castano worth it?

Well I can tell you the KR leather is some tough stuff. I had a bottle of Gold Schlager liquor laying in the passenger side front seat and some of leaked out. It made a stain about 4" x 3". I used some of the Duragloss Leather Shampoo with a Meg's interior brush and it all came off. It did change the color of the spot but I'm adding conditioner back to it and over time the patina of the leather will return.
As long as he don't rip the seat of his pants out and then repair them with tye wire(like one guy did) and scoot across the seat you should be alright.
Course, your right about one thing, it's really his truck and he can treat it the way he wants I guess. Just a shame to mess up a nice ride.

If you like real leather in your vehicles.....it's worth every penny.

Some people actually like the Pleather that comes in the Lariat, etc.

I had a King Ranch and recently switched to a Harley Davidson Super Crew. I have a five year old son who spills everything. The seats in the KR were difficult to keep clean and I was constantly worrying about every little spill and accident. The leather in the HD is easy to wipe off. I think it's similar to the KR, except the leather. I am very happy with it.

Good luck!!

I think it is a personal thing. I love the KR leather so much I am having the leather in my brand new Lotus taken out and replaced with the KR leather. But then again I am a bit obsessed.

You must properly care for the Castano Leather- it doesn't really take that much effort, though. The difference is the fact that the leather isn't color-treated, etc., so stains and minor scratches that are easily removed from "regular" leather can sometimes be a problem with Castano. Just don't expect it to have the physical wearability of a treated/colored leather.

One other thing: The seats in the KR are 100% leather, sides, backs and even the map pockets!

Note to the person that posted the Lariat trim is "pleather", that is not accurate: The Lariat (and other non-KR trim vehicles) are leather where your body touches the seat- the sides, backs and map pockets of the seats are a vinyl material that matches the color of the leather.

It is Lotus Elise and yes it does, but mine is midnight blue and the castano will look amazing with it. Right now she has a cream color leather which is great if I were 50, but I am not.

I wouldn't suggest getting the KR in your situation. I have scratches, spots, fading etc. I obsessed over it forever trying to remedy the fading and dark spots but I've pretty much given up on that. Nothing has been spilled on it, but the sweat and oils from people putting their hands and arms on it has killed it in areas. You can look back to some of my posts for more detail on my experience. I'm pretty much convinced using Meguire's on my seats did more damage than anything. It hasn't gotten any worse, but cleaning and conditioning does absolutely nothing except make the good areas look better and shows the contrast to the bad areas once the conditioner works itself in.

So, unless you have the magic touch like Rockpick and Skagel..... just my .02

Skagel, A Lotus Elise??!! Damn.....just damn

Have you used this product on your KR seats?

Curious to know what if it does truly help with the faded seats....thanks
