Bull Bar or Grille Guard on KR?

I am thinking of adding a bull bar or grille guard to my dark copper KR. The problem I am having is deciding on chrome or black. Usually I would choose whatever matches the running boards, but in this case, nothing does. There is chrome around the grille to match, but that's about it. Black on the door pillars, and mirrors, but again, that's about it.

Has anyone here added either a grille guard or bull bar on a new body style KR? Pics?

I would go with the Bull Bar and some billet grill inserts--add a bit more chrome to the front with the grill inserts, yet still keep the KR Arizona Beige grill....then maybe replace the running boards with some chrome/stainless MAAP side steps---

MAAP side steps

That's a toss up... But, if you get down to it, there's not all that much chrome on the truck. The lower valance is black so... hmm... maybe black would be my choice on copper.

Secondary thought, albeit silly. Beyond appearance and a bit more protection for a wreck/roadkill incident, what is the real functionality of a bull bar? I mean, I really like the looks of them but, I've always viewed them as more of an appearance mod versus a functionality mod.

Your right, in today's concrete jungle, probably not too much. They do provide support for extra lighting. As far as protection, my thought is that something maybe better then nothing.

And they do look good

From what I've been told, bull bars attach to the frame rails in a fairly loosey-goosey manner to allow for easy installation and adjustment. I believe you will need to drill another bolt hole in each side once the bull bar is in place, to keep it from simply rotating up into your grill on impact.

Rubeing... this thread has a signature pic of a Bull Bar on the new body style https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...hreadid=188490

Not sure about the mounting on the new body, but my bull bar on my 02 KR 4x4 mounted quite securely to the frame where the tow hooks are (no need to drill extra holes or anything of the such)... with PIAA 520's installed, I often get compliments on how it looks....

Mine si neither a "bull bar" or a full grille guard, but it attaches securely to the frame using tow hook holes as Mike150's does. You'll have to check my album to see it. It's chrome, on a Chestnut KR, so you can get an idea what it would be like on yours.

bull bars mount to the frame, you loose the toe hooks and use the hole so there it 2 bolts per side so once in place it will not move unles you run into something.

I've got a Ranchhand on my 05, works for me and I got to keep my tow hooks!

The choice is yours though, get what you want/need! Both will look good (EDIT: just saw this was an old thread...good to see pictures nonetheless!)

I went with the Go Rhino full grill guard on my 2001KR -

It has held up great over the years and provided the perfect place for the driving lights (which I sure am glad I got as the nights on the back roads are as dark as dark can get).

If the lower part of your truck is the tan color id go with the ranch hand grille guard because im pretty sure they make it in the tan and they look great on the 04-08 trucks

Kind of like chrome or even better stainless full grill guards. But also love the bull bars, but either way I say stainless steel

anyone have a pic of a KR with the bull bar (like the white KR above) AND the relocated front licence plate? i love the look of Travis's above, but unfortunately i live in a state that requires a front licence plate..
