Castano Stitching Cleaning

Per a short emailed request to King Ranch on behalf of the KROC, I have asked KR to recommend a product that we can use to clean and brighten our stitching (as it can become somewhat grungy over time).

I know some have mentioned utilizing baby soap to clean and whiten the stitching and I did mention that to my contact. She mentioned that they would try that on their own and also try some other concoctions as they will conduct some testing of their own.

I should have a thought or two from them in the coming weeks. I'll be sure to keep you all informed as to what I hear from them.

I used the cleaner that came in the Leather Master Maxi Kit from Stainsafe. The front seats were neglected on the used KR that I bought in November...never been conditioned, looked like tan suede, and the stitches were invisible.

I bought the Maxi kit from Stainsafe (www.stainsafe.com) for $40, includes the cleaner and conditioner, along with sponges and cloth, to try.

The cleaner worked pretty well. The stitches are white again and the water and other stains on the seats are gone. The conditioner also worked well, but it's fairly tedious to use, since it's very thin...but it works, brought the seat back to looking a lot more like the back ones.

I'd have to say the conditioner from the KR Saddle Shop is much easier to use, since it's a creme. Seems to work as well as the Stainsafe stuff...hard to compare, except for ease of use, advantage KR Saddle Shop creme.

I left the passenger seat alone for now, to compare. Huge difference. About got the driver's seat back in shape, looks a LOT better. Two cleanings and 3 Stainsafe conditioner treatments, followed by a KR Saddle Shop conditioner treatment...bit more and it will be fully reconditioned...taking it slowly...

No, I didn't buy the Waxon...but I may try it later if the conditioner alone doesn't protect the leather enough. I thought about it...<g> Sounds like you have it...and like it. That's good to know.

The Stainsafe cleaner worked really well...my seats were stained and very dried out after 2 1/2 years of no care and lots of sun here in South Florida (front windows were not tinted, either).

The cleaner foamed up with the sponge and took out all of the dirt and stains...should have seen the white towel I used to wipe off the suds...it was filthy. Did it a couple of times, until the tower was barely discolored. Looked much better, even before the Stainsafe conditioner.

I could practically hear the seats sucking up the conditioner when I first started...man, that leather was parched. Actually concerned me a little. But it seems to have worked pretty well.

The Stainsafe conditioner is definitely a bit harder to work with due to the thinness, almost watery. But it seems to work....discolors the leather and darkens it when you put it on initially, but is absorbed and lightens back up to normal.

I'm trying the KR SaddleShop creme now...about to get the driver's seat back where it's supposed to be.
