F150 or F250 King Ranch
F150 or F250 King Ranch
I really can't decide between getting a 2004 F150 or just ordering a F250 crew cab 4x4 king ranch now.
I like the new body style but I know they prob. won't make the king ranch in the new F150 til 2005.
Plus I like to be different and have yet to see a F250 king ranch on the road in my area.
The only thing I don't like on the F250 is the $48,000.00 price tag.
Any ideas, which one do you guys and girls like the best?

well, which one do you like better? the 250 will be an all around more useful truck but unless you are going to actually use it for its intended purpose it would be a waste of the extra cash. all that said, i would choose a 250 over all others with a diesel of course.
I think you will probably see the KR in 2004. You just won't hear about it for a little while as they iron out the details. Same with the HD. The contracts are still there, so they would be stupid to not put them out.
Well, consider this; if you go with the F250 diesel you are buying a brand new type of engine "Turbo Diesel" and we all know it is never a good idea to buy the first year of such things. then again you have the same problem with an '04 F150. New vehichle model=problems. So either waite a couple years and then choose. Or buy the F250 with the V10.....although I would never recomend a gas engine when a diesel is a available.
Just a few of my thoughts. Sorry I won't and can't make the decision for ya.

I looked at both the F250 and F150 before I bought my KR F150 and it came down to a couple things. First, I tow a boat, camper or snowmobiles fairly often, but nothing so heavy that the F150 couldn't handle with ease. So i couldn't justify the extra expense of the F250 for hauling capability, and didn't want the harsher ride of the F250 when I'm not pulling anything. The second thing is that Ford wasn't offering 0% financing on the F250, so my decision was easier. Ford didn't make the KR F250 at the time, I was looking at a Lariat.

I'd suggest that if you don't need the extra towing/hauling payload or the larger bed you should not go with the F-250. If most of your miles are on normal roads unloaded you will be unhappy with the ride and handling. I'm not saying it is bad but it is very much a "truck" and not so much a "passenger vehicle". Same goes for the diesel engine, if you will be towing...sure consider it...but if not there is zero advantage and thousands ($$$$$$) of disadvantages. You'd have to drive around 24 hours a day for the lower fuel cost to pay for the more expensive engine.

Ya know, I don't need it nor would I probabaly ever use it but, if I had the $ and the chance to go after a SD KR, I'd do it at the drop of a hat. Those things are so sweet!!!

I have been waiting forever to find a SD KR to compare with our F150 KR since I know we will need to upgrade at some point for the towing power. Finally saw an F350 SD KR Dually at a horse show, and was disappointed overall.
It was supposed to be a "Chestnut" like mine, but somehow didn't quite look right, like the hue was off. Maybe it was the ratio of Chestnut to Arizona Beige that looked off, not sure.
Anyway, first of all the drivers seat back is one piece without the adjustable headrest which is a must to get comfortable on those long trips. Also no headrests on the backbench seat. They added arm rests to the front but made them so short you can't use them for driving unless you move way to close to the steering wheel. And the seat itself didn't seem as comfortable as ours in the 150. They had wood accents on the doors, but not on the dash. The visor had two pieces so you could block across the corner, yet it fell short by an inch and half so what was the point.
Now they did have a custom outfitted one sitting next to it and boy was it nice. Specially designed leather seats with extra padding. Wood everywhere including the center and ceiling consoles. Crazy lighted ceiling with recessed mirror. DVD entertainment system. Custom exterior aerodynamic lower grill trim that rapped around. Very sharp and he only wanted 1K more for it.
If they don't do some tweaking to the SD KR for the next model year, we may go custom as overall seat comfort on those long trips is key even if I have to lose my saddle leather
. The wife suggested we become a two-truck family as she doesn't want to give up her 150 KR, but I don't think my wallet would like the payments. Plus two gas guzzlers would kill my fuel bill, especially with prices so high, ouch

Interesting perspective there acbell. Thanks for the write up. I have yet to see one in person with the exception of driving down the road etc. I'd really like to check one out.
Oh well... one of these days.

you have to drive the turbo diesel in order to truelly apreciate the truck....it has the pick-up and go of a gas.....it truelly is amazing. I have had the chance to drive 2 SD turbo diesel KR's. one was a F350 w/duallies and it handled great and really got up off the line smoothly and quickly.
I stopped by my local dealer today and drove a 250 crew cab fx4 king ranch with the 6.0 and I am in love.
I would have taken the one they had on the lot but it had the rear bench seat and I want the captains chairs in the rear, so I broke down and ordered one now I just have a 2 month wait!
