Door for cigarette lighter

My door for the cigarette lighter is looking a little limp these days. Sure is a cheap design as I have only used a it few times before it broke. Has anyone come up with a fix for this yet?

I've had mine down for 2 years now. Can't take that radar detector down now, can I?

I read on the forums that a number of doors have broken. Just a very cheap design.

I have had my truck for 2 years, bought it brand new. I have never used the cigarette lighter and I have only had the door down a few times for power accessories. Go figure I guess there is always something. The truck is great otherwise. I wonder if this is something that is covered under the extended warranty. Guess I will need to call and see.

That will depend on which Ext. Warranty plan that you purchased, the Premium one should, but I would guess the Basic one is not going to.

Thumbs up

I think it's all in how you use the door to begin with? I use mine constantly, several times a day actually. When I flip it open or closed, I hold onto the edge of it lightly until it stops. I have no doubt it would break if you just flip it down and up like it was indestructible These kind of things never last long anyway, so I just treat it gently.,,,,98

Screamer,

I hear what ya saying man. Some things just need a gentle touch. I thought I was being careful as I had read about this before. Oh well such is life and that is what the extended warranty is for.

Power Door Installed - With Pics

Had the door fail on my 2000 F150. Ordered the Ford Part from Amazon.

After a bunch of trial and error, finally figured out how to install it.

Easiest way is to remove the dash panel, rather than trying to do it with the panel installed.

Here's a YouTube that shows how to get the dash panel off.

Once the panel is off, it's a simple matter to put the door hinge pins in the holes on the bracket. They bend to allow the pins to fit in the holes.

The tricky part is the spring. One end goes in a tiny hole on the hinge bracket and the other end goes in a hole on the door arm.

Having the panel out also makes it easier to install the little rubber bumper .
