Driver side seat belt prob.

I have a '98 F-150 ext cab and my driver side seat belt refuses to retract. Is this a shade-tree fix or do I just have to replace the damn thing. I tried to remove some of the interior panels to get to it ... had a hard time ..... went and got a beer.... then gave up!

I have a '99 with the same prob. Took it to dealer while in warranty. They said no adjustments, whole unit replace. They did that. It worked for a day. Now I have another on order with them. It's my only complaint with my truck.

Here in Kansas all seat belts on any vehicle is covered for at least 100,000. Not sure if this is Federal or just State. Check it out.

'98 XLT - same problem, since the truck was new. If anyone has luck getting this replaced/repaired free by dealer, please post it here for all to see.

Nitro, the belt itself is fine. Just the retraction system that soesn't work.
Mines in for a warranty replacement today. We'll see how long it works, if it does at all.

Thumbs down

I'm on my way.
When the truck was new, I would hit the release button and the belt would fly with such force that I feared it would break the window.

Three years later, hit the button and move the belt to where it's supposed to go is like helping an elderly relative up a flight of stairs.

(of course, some of us use more belt than others)

Mine has had the same thing since I bought it used with 24k. When I have time, I do the old "slide the buckle down and manually retract procedure." I'm getting pretty sick of that after three years and about 55 thousand miles later. Does anyone know if they are covered to 100K? I sure would LOVE to get this damn thing fixed, sigh!!!,,,,98

Cool

Some of our elderly relatives are slower than others, too

Angry driver side seat belt

I have a 2000 Lariat 4x4, and the driver side seat belt mounts to the floor. The belt won't retract, and the plastic housing is covering the hex nut in the floor. The housing is held on by 3 rivet-looking screws. I took to the dealership and the mechanic said these would have to be drilled off. How in the heck can they make something that you have to bread before you can fix it? Anyone have any suggestions?
