I have a 99 XLT sport package truck.

the cold/hot temp control switch seems to have stripped itself out

I cant go from hot to cold. Is it just the **** that breaks or
the control rod.

The **** came off in my hand and the control rod is semi-circle shaped. I cant tell which part is broken.

Both still look OK

Anybody had this problem?

I don't know first hand, but I would say that the ***** are pressure fit onto the rod. There is probably a small plastic piece inside the **** that acts as a spring.

I say this because the ***** cannot be permanent mount. They must be removable if the climate control unit needs to come out for servicing.

A lot of Ford ***** tend to be push-on pressure fit.

Try pushing it back on yourself (pushing until you fell it lock)
