Door Ajar Switch

My driver's door ajar switch seems too act up every so often. The door can be closed tight and the dash light stays. The same thing is happenning in my buddy's '97. How do you replace this switch? Thanks in advance.

don't replace, simply spray w-d 40 or some other lube into the latch area and the switch will again become free to operate.

It is a 97 thing, our lincoln has bad switches my f 150 has bad switches, expys have bad switches. I got mine replaced under warranty and it just came back again. BUT I was talking to a guy at the local dealer and he claims that they have finally made a switch that works and isnt just the old replacement switch. I have yet to try it because I am out of warranty and really dont want to pay for a stupid switch.

yup just clean out the doorjam latch mechanism with a degreaser to get out the old gummed up grease..then spray in some new lube ...the old grease gets dirty and gummed up and doesn't let the contacts work right inside the door switch..no need to replace the switch this usually works..

don't ever use wd-40, clean up the contacts with a piece of emory cloth and then put some dielctric grease on the contacts, simple as that. wd40 leaves a terrible residue that ends up gumming things up and is really only good for removing road tar and old stickers.

Roushfan is right, WD40 is NOT a lubricant. It is kerosene and propane. It loosens the existing lube and redistributes it. Most people that use this fix have no problems. Of course, the nature of what WD40 is, the problem is merely postponed.

As far as models affected, this can affect any 97 and up F150 and any Superduty of any year. They all have the same switching mechanism.

Use contact cleaner. Or go to Radio Shack and get some TV Tuner Contact Cleanter and Lubricant. I used the radio shack stuff and sprayed the H**L out of it and never had the problem again.
