Storage pocket

Ever since I bought my 98, I've been stumped as to why the heck Ford gave us that little cubbyhole in the dash to the right of the steering column. It doesn't really do much as far as storage space cuz everything I've ever put in there falls out anyway. Does anyone have any cool ideas for use of that thing?

There's supposed to be an electronic brake controller that fits in that hole.

Lightbulb another use

When I go on long trips I don't like to be sitting on my wallet. That's where it goes. It's a perfect fit and nobody can see it from outside the truck.

My 01 dont have it but my 89 does. I usually keep a calculator (for figuring gas mileage quick) and an extra pair of boots in there. Ok so I lied about the calculator, or was that the boots ?

My 98 had the storage hole and I used it for my wallet or smokes. I miss that little hole in my 02. Also miss the ashtray under the cup holder and the storage in the door panels. 02 has half the pockets in the door. Less storage under seat due to jack. Man I miss my 98.

I loved my storage in my 96. Perfect for wallets, snuff, and other little things that junk up my center console. My 2000 doesn't have one. I want it back. Does anyone know if the 99 panel will fit the 2000 panel to get that compartment back?

My '02 has 'the hole'. I love it. I put my cell phone in there while it's charing from the cigarette lighter. It's perfect. I also keep my wallet or cigarettes in there.

My '00 does not have the pocket, but the '03 that I ordered does. Looks like Ford decided to put it back in.

A '99 panel will fit but, won't solve your problem. You will end up with the hole but, no 'box' behind it.
Eliminating the 'box' in 2000 saved Ford .67 cents per unit.
The 67 cents was not worth the complaints they got, they admitted that and brought the box back in 2003.
