Installed new Steering wheel

The leather steering wheel on my 05 Lariat was starting to look really bad. I picked up a OEM wheel on ebay for $40.00. I must admit that I hadnt realized that it wasn't the leather one the truck came with, but it was an OEM brand new 0 miles steering wheel that I guess comes on all the other models.

Heres the OE one

And here are a few of the install and the final look.

How did you do the swap? Mine is tore up pretty good as well. Would it be possible to put the wheel from the 09's and up in our year truck?

The swap was straight up. You'll need a two jaw pulley to make your life easier. then basically remove the 4 screws holding the rear housing and swap it over to the new one. and reverse the process to reinstall. Just incase I used a tad of blue loctite on the torx bolt that holds the wheel in place. As for using the newer style, Im not really sure. Not sure if the wiring will work..

if it was just your wheel leather that was bad wouldnt it have been easier and cheaper just to throw on a steering wheel cover?

I need to do this, also. Thanks for the pics.

Any issues in dealing with the air bag? Does disconnecting the battery take care of it?

no problems at all. I know it says to remove only the neg. cable but I disconnected both cables on the battery.

Nice job. Looks pretty good. The leather on mine started to peel, I ended up putting on a cover though.

im interested in doing this but only for the audio controls. mine only has cruise control. maybe i should ask my dealer if the buttons are cheaper than a whole new wheel on ebay.
