i need to remove the door panel on my 2003 f150.
i have a problem with my speaker.

is there a trick to removing this panel?

IIRC from my 97 there may be a visable screw or two but the panel is held on with hooks rather than the usuall push in pins. You need to lift or slide the panel up and it should come off.

On the back of the panel they have L brackets that are attached to the door panel and fit into cutouts in the door skin.

 

It's actually pretty easy, but just be kinda careful as things may break. First, the narrow piece that goes along the back of the window must be pulled off, wedge you're fingers in and pull. Once that is off, pull the piece surrounding the door handle off, with finger nails as it's not as hard to come off. With those pieces off, pry with fingers again the door switch panel, front first (pointy edge). Unplug and remember which plug went where (label if necessary). There should be a screw under the pieces you removed earlier, 1 each, 2 total and none in the switch area. Once the screws are removed, lift straight up and presto. Do like me maybe and replace with some aftermarket speakers while you're there anyways. I also replaced the lock plunger with a billet piece and the door handle with a chrome one. I like one stop shopping and multi-tasking you'd say.

I hope you don't mind me kinda swiping the thread, but I've got a related question since somebody brought up door panel removal. I've actually gotta fix the door lock rod in my driver's door that had to be slim-jimmed one too many times. It now no longer unlocks with the key in the driver's door. I think it just came loose. Anyway, my main question is related to the speaker suggestion. The other day I looked at a ~2000 Expedition at a salvage yard that had just come in and hadn't been stripped yet. It was an Eddie Bauer with all the bells. The front door panels were removed and the speakers in the door were 2-way separates, like a 6" mid and a 2" tweeter (I'm just winging the sizes). Is there anything special about that speaker setup? I didn't notice if the system was a Mach or not. Would it be worth my time to go back and snag the door speakers? I have a '98 F150 SuperCab Lariat with stock speakers and could definitely use an upgrade. But then again, I have no idea what my stock speakers look like. The panels have never been off. Thanks for any suggestions or comments.

stock speakers look like sh*t. wouldn't go back though. get on ebay man. make sure you get 6.5"s for the front though...

 

its not gonna be worth your time to get used speakers from a junkyard, especially if they are stock speakers.

Here is a video i did for a friend, its really this easy.

 

If i remember correctly there are 4 screws total; 1 where the door handle is, 1 where the switches are, and 2 at the bottom of the door.

 

Humm, not a bad idea they did adding screws. Mine has 2, 3 max if I remember right, but it's a 2000 and a reg. cab.
