Expedition console mod complete!!

Finished the expy console mod last night. Thanks to all the info I got from this site. It took about 2 hours, but some of that time was installing the Barbari seat covers, they really have a factory look to them. I got a bucket seat and console from an 01 expedition at a local salvage yard. It was really an easy mod and the console is much better than the split bech seat. Here are some pics

Wow man I really like that a lot. Looks really good. I actually have been considering doing this to my truck as well.

However, I don't know if it will work for mine. I have the captain's chairs with the armrests that fold down. Do you know if I can put that in and keep my armrests? Also, do you miss your space that the console now takes up?

Also, how much did it cost you?

Thanks.

I got the console and a bucket seat at a junkyard for $175 total. If you have the armrests, you can either remove then or get a console from a 97-99 expedition. They have a thinner armrest compartment.

I don't miss the space at all, feels like I have more room. It has a much larger armrest compartment. I'm very happy with it. Wife said it feels like a new truck

you got a really good deal for the console by itself, not counting the seat too! Those covers look really good too, how much did those run you? did you put the covers over the factory fabric, or did you pull the factory stuff out? and thirdly would you mind selling me the fold down arm rest off of your 60% bench seat that you took out?

Are there rear cupholders in the back of the console? What about on a 97-99?

the seat covers are made by barbari, they fit over the existing seat. you can check out their website barbari.com can't sell you the armrest, already gave the seat away.

the console does have rear cupholders, not sure about the measurements, but it fits perfectly!

A few more questions if you don't mind....

What year is your truck?

Also, these do not look like rear cupholders:

Are they? Is this the console you have?

Thanks.

Those are not cupholders in the pictures above.

See the link in my sig for my Expy console FAQ page.

Wow it appears this was a hot topic back in the day. Thanks for all the info... very helpful.

I still have a few questions:
1) Can I get a '99+ console (the wider one) and keep my armrests folded up all the time so I don't have to remove them?
2) Can I remove the radio controls and/or air conditioning controls in the front/rear to use those slots for storage?
3) I REALLY NEED rear cupholders... do they only come on the '99+ console intended for seats without armrests?

Thanks.

EDIT: I found that an '01 console is exactly what I want (rear cupholders and no A/C controls on it in front or rear). Can I put that in my truck and still have armrests (even if they have to be folded up)?

JohnBoy88,

The console will fit. You may just have to either keep your armrests up or even remove them completely. I know people have removed them with no problems.

I would install it and see how tight it is. They may work out fine. I had a 98 with the armrest and narrower console and there was a little room left over.

Okay. Thanks.

One final question: Where is the best place to get a console that I need? I have checked local salvage yards and half of them are broken and the rest are full of muddy water....

Thank you again for all your help.

No problem. I would try EBay first.
