Question disabling passenger air bag

I noticed when I took the bezel from around the stereo off, there were wires for the airbag. I don't have an actual switch but I imagine if I had that option, the switch would be right there. Has anyone modified their truck to allow a manual passenger airbag disconnect switch?

In the US, Its mandatory I beleive.

My 2000 Mustang had one, My 2001 Ranger had one, and my 2004 F150 has one.

I dont think you can get a car with out them any more.

I don't think it's mandatory in the US just customary..

My F150 has it but my 2000 Mustang does not. Neither does our 99 F250 RCab.

It's an option and yes I think you can just plug it up and get it to work.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. I do NOT have that and would like it so I can switch off the airbag. I wouldn't have known the wires were there if I hadn't pulled that trim piece off. I presume, like most options, everything is wired but the switch was not installed at the factory. The wires seem to go to a little block from what I can see but it's on the left hand side?? Mine is an '03 Canadian model. I'm wondering if I got the swich or another plastic bezel part that has the switch, whether I can hook up those wires to it and have a functional airbag disabler switch...Should work, eh?

IIRC, It's only in US vehicles without a back seat, because there's nowhere else to put a child. Pickups get them, Mustangs don't. Do screws have them? I know standard cabs and scabs do. Apparently the back seat in a scab doesn't count...

Screws do not get the switch because you can use the backseat for child seats.

You do realise that this switch has absolutely no affect on In-laws right???

It has nothing to do with having a backseat or not. It's an option that you can get. Some people like to be able to turn it off. Like I said,

03 F150 Scab. Backseat but I have the switch....
00 Mustant. Backseat but does not have the switch
99 F250 Rcab. No Backseat but doesn't have the switch.

I am going to bet that if you did a poll, there would be no corrolation (sp) between having a backseat and having a switch

It ain't no stinkin option.

It's about the children's carseat.

F150 Regular cab = switch.
F150 Supercab = switch
F150 SuperCrew = No switch.(Put baby in back)
Mustang = No switch (Put baby in back)
F250 Regular cab = No switch ( It's a work truck, why are you taking the baby to work?)

"I heard the passenger airbag deployed and did a number on your kid."

"Yeah, I shoulda got that stinkin option. How could I have been so stupid? You think I should get a lawyer and go after Ford? They really didn't esplain that option to me. "

I have a 06 screw. I believe theres a pressure switch in the passenger seat. when the weight exceeds a set amount the airbag is turned on otherwise its off.

05 scab - no switch (at least no visible switch in the cab) - The passenger seat contains a sensor which will disengage the pass airbag when the weight is less than ~40lbs. I might be off on the exact weight, but the new federal law requires the "dual stage" and weight detection in all 2006+ vehicles.

I have a regular cab and the only thing I read about the airbag was that it disables itself if the occupent is less than X pounds. I didn't see an option to manually disable it although I didn't really look as I don't really care.
