Dashboard damaged from factory? PICS

I just picked up my brand new 2006 F-150 supercrew two days ago. I just noticed that there are what appears to be marks from a screw driver on the dash board. What is really weird is that the dash coating is intact (the scratches are underneath). It looks like an installer used a screwdriver to pop the rubber tray out perhaps to install the factory stereo or something? Maybe a hack working on the assembly line? Has anyone seen this before? I just wanted some feedback before I take it to the dealer. See the pics below.

The rubber tray pulls out, by hand.....and there is no access to the stereo from there.

I'm a little bummed. If I install something....I like to do it clean...no hack jobs here. I am surprised that they are coming from the factory like this. It might be from the mold it was made in?

Back when i was around injection molding, I can remember seeing marks like that. The problem is if there is more than one point for the rubber to flow into the cavity, I would have thought they would be spaced farther apart.

Hopefully they'll replace it for you!

Lightbulb

You could pull it out and spin it around towards the front. Knowing it's like that will nag at you though. I have a few things like that on my truck I wish I could fix.,,,,98

As a temporary fix, flipping it could work.

That's not a picture of the rubber liner that is messed up. The liner sits in the bottom of the tray. They whole tray will need to be replaced. The messed up part is at the front of the tray. I will take them about 10 minutes to replace it.

Here is a picture of the tray and liner. See how the liner sits in the bottom of the tray?

This picture is from Thrill Racing's gallery. I found it while doing the same mod as him in this picture.

So do the clips not line up in the same place? If it's the same, it could be flipped. I would probably get it replaced too though. I detailed my friends 04 once, and didn't remember if the liner was that deep or not.,,,,98

I don't see how it can be flipped. The tray is bolted in behind the trim panel that surrounds the radio, etc. There are 2 bolts behind there that hold it in place once you snap it in. The back clips in, then the sides, then the front is bolted down.

Go to the dealer and have them replace it.

Yes, it bolts in. I just took it apart last night to do this mod:
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=235087

I took it off to drill some holes in it and to attach the bracket that holds my Sirius radio to it with 4 screws.

Call the dealer ASAP and tell them so it is documented, and then get it in there asap to have it replaced. That early on you shouldn't have to worry about them blaming you. Especially since you haven't done anything to monidfy the interior that would have warranted you taking it apart.

My 2 cents~

Looks like a mold defect that slipped through the cracks to me.

I don't think they would have gated in that location. Probably just a bad mold shot.

Small problem with you already taking delivery of it.

Did you sign the Ford delivery checklist ( Revised 12/04 DC9FEG ) ?

Look on the front page, L/H column all the way at the bottom of the sheet under Vehicle Inspection -> Second Check Mark box
I have personally inspected my new vehicle. It is in good operating condition and damage free
Hope your dealer is decient, mine was a PITA to get a trim panel repalced that I noted on the Delivery sheet as damaged.
