Can anyone recommend a specific (brand and model) of child seat that fits good in the back of a '99 Supercab? My wife and I are expecting our first baby and I want to get a seat that'll be a good fit for the truck.

Congratulations and best wishes on the new addition to your F150 family. I have been using Century products for my children.
My 8 month old daughter just graduated from a Century 4in1 infant seat (infants have to go in the front seat in a F150 SC) to a Century 2000 STE. My 3 1/2 year old son just moved from the Century 2000 ste Child seat to a Century Next Step Booster
seat. Century seems to be able to make car
seats that has more than one use like the 4in1 and the Next Step.

Has anyone tried to put a tether kit in the back seat of a 2000 SC? The kit is free from Ford but the instructions and drawings
are confusing.

What is a tether kit? My wife and I are also expecting, and I will need to purchase a car seat as well. Why do the infant seats have to go in the front?

Children are safest in the back seat. If you do put them in front remember to turn off the air bag. On second thought, just put them in the back.

There was a story floating around recently about a guy whose child was killed in the front seat of his SC because he forgot to turn off the air bag. The accident itself was pretty minor but it set the bags off and the guys son was killed.

The story goes that the punishment was to sit in jail on the anniversary of his son's death for a few years - just to think about what he had done. That is cruel!

Infants MUST be is a rear facing car seat. Most rear facing cars seats will not properly fit on the back seat of a SC. Therefore you will have to turnoff the passenger air bag and put the rear facing car seat on the front seat. I had my daughter on the front seat for a couple of weeks after I got my F150 until she was big enough and able to hold up her head in a front facing car seat on the back seat.

As far as tethers, they are being phased in this year and as of 9/1/00 tethers will be standard equipment on car seats and tether anchors on all cars and light trucks. Fords
Tether anchorage hardware kit part number is 613D74, it's free but may be on back order.

Am I correct in that the tether kit is like a seatbelt for carseats? I will check with Ford on the availability of this for my 98 SC.

Keep us posted. I would like to have one for my daughter's car seat! The rear, middle seat belt just doesn't seem to get tight enough!

They are our most precious cargo!

 

I called my Ford dealer and there is a teather kit that can be ordered. There is also a service notice on what should be done to install this teather. It is free.

No new addition yet. The baby's due in March. Thanks for asking.

I ended up getting a car seat from a friend and it seems a little too deep for the back seat. I put it in the center facing rearward, but the way the seatbelt holds it in doesn't seem to secure. If you push up on the back of the child seat (behind where the head goes) it loosens alot and you have to push it back down to get it secured. I'll probably just have to buy one that I *think* will work and return it if it doesn't fit.

I have a COSCO infant seat with a removable base that works real good in the rear seat center position in my 1999 SC. Got it at Walmart for about $40. My son, future FORD Fanatic;just like dad; is a week newer than my truck. 07-July-1999

MJ If you're not confident in the seat you borrowed DON'T trust it with the most important cargo you'll ever carry! The NTHSA
has trained people you can contact for advise on product and fit,http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/childps/Contacts/index.cfm. You're local police/sheriffs office should be able to help you, this is when you feel your taxes went for something worthwhile.

We bought a COSCO Arriva, model 02-750-WDM, removable base infant seat from Wal-Mart the first week in July. Eastern Penna. Pottstown/Reading area. The price was $39.95 plus tax. We received as a gift, a COSCO Voyager Stroller, model 01-853-DYL, that uses a very similar infant seat ( handle is a little different ) that comes with a removable base as well. You can lock the infant seat to the stroller and when you get back to the car unhook from the stroller and then lock the infant seat to the removable base which stays in the car. Pretty neat! I have the center arm rest/console thingie folded down and the removable base fastened to the center rear set belt. The top of the infant seat extends over the arm rest a bit. I put some folded up towels around the base to make it more stable. Works very well.
