If not where could i get good interior pant adn how should i prep the peices to be painted

Stripping it off probably wouldn't work all that well, since it is black ABS underneath. It would be messy and harder than painting actually. You want to keep the texture, and just have a black matte finish, correct? That's pretty easy actually. I would use a product called SEM Color Coat. Most trim shops and auto upholstry supply shops will carry it. If you can't find that you can also use the vinyl dye from the auto parts store, since all you want is black anyway. Make sure you degrease the hell out of the pieces. Washing them thoroughly with dish soap or simple green, rough them up a little with a scotch brite pad, and spray 2 or 3 light coats. Just enough to cover the previous color. The hardest part is taking the pieces off Good luck!!,,,,98

Take the a/c vents out and paint them seperately for the best look. Otherwise the edges of them will look cheesy when the vents are turned one way or the other

Exclamation

Be sure to use thier adhesion promoter with the SEM, if you're going to paint anything on the door panels. They are made of a different matierial which does not bond well. Believe me, I didn't use it when I painted the inside of my door pockets, and they peel just by brushing a fingernail over it. I am about to clean them out and cover them with the same carpet I used on my home made snuglid liner.,,,,98

Exactly what i was lookin for buddie thanks alot!!

But one more thing, i have a 97 my doors are way diffrent. Where the door handle is on the newer ones i have a handle there and my door handle is under the power doors locks and window controls. I was wondering is the handle paintable because its made out of hard rubberish materiale? Also liek the lightnings the whole peice above the arm rest is painted also and on mine its almost like a leather material is this paintable or no?

I hope u can understand what parts i'm talking about if not i'll try to get a picture up. But any how thanks for your help!

I have the same door panels as you. I think the front section where the handle is, is the hard ABS style plastic, and somewhat easy to paint. The rear section that is padded, will most likely need the adhesion coat first, to keep the color from cracking or peeling. The handle itself is another story. It is some sort of rubber like matierial. I don't think it can be painted. I have seen them covered with tweed and vinyl though.
If they had only covered those handles with something else?? They love to collect dirt and grime don't they? The switch plates for windows and door locks, are ABS also, and easy to prep.,,,,98

Yes those handles are a pain in my azz i hate them....over time they get liek this yellowish build up and when i tryed to wash them off the handle starts to kinda peel and the color gets all ******* up. So i think i'll probly paint the padded like material, arm rest and where the lock/window controls are on the doors. But now for the paddel part what do mean is needs and adhesion coat? Have you done this to your doors?

SEM makes a clear spray on bonding agent, as well as a prep cleaner for soft vinyl interior panels. You clean them with the prep cleaner and wipe it down, then spray the adhesion promoter on. It improves the bond between the paint and
the part you're painting. If you don't use it, there's a very good chance it will peel off easily, or crack the paint when you push on the padded area. I'm not sure how it actually works, it may soften the vinyl to make the paint actually become part of it. Melts it chemically for a short time? Since ABS pieces are less likely to flex enough to crack, it's not really needed.,,,,98

Sure no problem! I will probably be posting pics as soon as I get done, in the appearance forum.

I'm going to get the products from a place called Taylor Supply in Houston. I don't think they do mail order though. Look around in the yellow pages for auto trim shops, alot of them carry the SEM Color Coat spray cans. Or you can order it directly from their site I think?,,,,98
