I would like to add "puddle lamps" to my 2013 F150 XLT. The mirrors did not come from the factory with puddle lamps but the port is there. Has anyone ever done this mod? Can it be done? If so, will I have to run wires or just tap into the mirror wires? Have seen many videos but they are all on "how to replace" puddle lamps, not adding/modifications. Any help will be greatful and thanks in advance.
I replaced the smaller mirrors with the ford tow mirrors and they just plugged into factory connectors and the mirror defrost and puddle lamps all worked and I don't believe my original smaller ones had puddle lamps from what I remember. So in your case id guess you should be able to just tap into existing wires, assuming yours at least has some sort of connector for say, defrost or signals. But I swapped mine several years ago and I don't remember if they had one or two connectors.
I see what you are saying. I opened the mirror casing yesterday to see what wires I find in there. The only wires/connectors I saw were the wires and connectors going to the heated mirror and turn signal on the mirror. I don't think tapping into those wires will run the puddle lamps. Yeah, the puddle lamps will run if I tapped into those hot wires but they will be on all the time, not when you open and close the door...LOL. Still trying to find the correct way of doing it and thanks for your input FX4.
GUTTERBALL.....yes I have an update. Did lots of research in this forum and finally found a tread from one guy that did exactly what I want to do. My mirrors already have the port where the puddle lights will go. YES!!!!!!! the wires are there but on the driver side of the door which will require to take off the door panel to get to the wire. When you unplug the wire harness from the mirror, look for the "Purple" wire. I took my test light and touch the pin, opened the door, test light came on and then dimmed as the interior light dimmed. According to the tread I found, the guy stated that for a 2011 SCREW it's the same wire. When I took the harness of my mirror there were only 3 pins not being used so it was not hard to figure it out. I also read some where that you can replace the wire harness inside the mirror for what you want to add, so it will be an easy "plug and play" but no one seems to know what the part number is and I sure as heck can't find it any where. As soon as mine come in I will update more. These are the ones I ordered: http://drivebright.com/home/shop/v4-...ack-brightest/

MNBlizzard......No problem, will keep you posted and hoping to post step by step pictures. Had problems in the past posting pictures on this web site but will try again. Just got an email that the puddle lights I ordered are back order, but should be in stock this week. Hope to get them soon
UPDATE: OK guys. received my "LED Puddle Lights" today. Going to start to put them on today after work, for as long as the wife doesn't give me a "honey do" list....LOL
BTW, I really would like to post pictures of the install but I have no idea how to post pictures on here. Can anyone help????
Hey guys saw this and figured I'd add in. I daily drive a 2015 Taurus and just bought these same lights last week. I'll do a write-up if anyone wants so you can see pics if no one has by then? They look well made.
I installed them on my Taurus on my lunch break today. Took a few seconds each. It did take me a minute to get the old ones off because the how to on the daybright website was a bit different. I had to pry both ends of the OEM lens to get them off. I'll get some night shots when it get darker later.
Sorry guys that I have not had the chance to install mine and show some pictures. I have a family emergency as my father is in bad shape and won't have time to install my new Puddle Lights for at least another week. But I promise as soon as things settle down I will post the pictures and step by step on how to do it even if your truck does not have factory install puddle lights.
