Reverse Lights
I need some advice on reverse lights, I want to add some to my 05 Lariat.
1) Are any no name brand from Advance Auto fine to use? Like a $20 Led strip that comes with some wire and a switch? 2) What would be the best way to wire them? My truck has backup sensors, could I wire them into it? How? 3) If the no name brands aren't the best idea what should I look for? Do I need anything else besides the lights? Wires? What kind? Brackets? I'm sorry if this has already been discussed and I'm bringing up old news but any advice is appreciated. |

It really would be prudent to simply use Search, as all of that has already been discussed - just a little  ( I provided a couple sample linkies below tae git yall started ). FWIW: - The *best* way is entirely up to yer needs, anticipated functionality and skill level ( although there are several common items & procedures that will make the difference between a reliable system versus a crappy one - covered in the provided info, mostly ) - Most cheap LED strip lights are not bright enough - to do this on the cheap (but still reliable, AND bright) use a couple halogen mini driving/fog lights. - High-Quality LED sealed modules are more expensive, but are very nice. - ALWAYS use a relay, proper fusing and exemplary wiring practices ======================== https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...-how-pics.html https://www.f150online.com/tech/electrical1.html https://www.f150online.com/tech/control1.html http://www.the12volt.com/relays/relays.asp https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...=backup+lights https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...=backup+lights https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...=backup+lights https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...=backup+lights https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...=backup+lights https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...=backup+lights https://www.f150online.com/forums/su...ghlight=backup Some good example circuits in SSCULLY's album (thanks Steve): https://www.f150online.com/forums/me...bums-misc.html Good luck! If you run into any snags, post 'em up in this same thread, fer continuity. I'm certain Someone smartr'n me will come along to answer any additional Q's. Forgot to mention - nosir, you can't use the reverse- sensing system to facilitate this. :beers: MGD |
The cheap LED ones suck... I currently have Hologen's with clear lenses which I don't care for. The are more spot lights so the shine straight back not much help in the side mirrors. My favorite set were actually back up lights which I've seen at Advance and Academy Sports in the Boat section. They are rectangles with mounts that go on the drawtite. The lenses are diamond cut like a reflector so they flood the light out and give a great spread. I have prolly the most detailed wiring done with mine possible. I have three triggers to turn them on. They come on while in reverse, they come on with a switch (only while the ignition is on), they also come on with the domelight (only when the ignition is off) so they illuminate the rear of the truck when I unlock it like the front does stock. there is a wiring diagram link in my signature below.
Here's a link to them or something real similar on ebay... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hitch-backup-lights-/261374803489?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cdb26fe21&vxp=mtr |
