Automatic Auxiliary Backup Lights

I was looking to install some auxiliary reverse lights so that I can actually see where I am going when I back up, but I'm not sure how to make them come on automatically when I shift into reverse. I am going to follow this thread https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...-how-pics.html and does anyone know what the relay is used for.

In the 1st post of the thread :

I am also using a relay so they will come on only when the switch activated with the key in the ON/RUN position. I also did NOT tap into the reverse wire was I did not want them on every time I backed up, only to be activated with the switch.
Think of installing Aux lamps on the front of the truck, these are mounted on the rear of the truck instead.

If you have the trail tow package installed, and have the 7 pin adapter, here is a thread with how to hook up reverse lamps to the trailer tow adapter reverse circuit.
https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...g-harness.html

Just watch the AMP draw of the aux lamps. If they are normal 55 W bulbs, you would use the relay to the trailer tow battery circuit, and use the trailer tow reverse circuit to trigger the relay.

The relay is used to keep from running too much current through the circuit. The simplest set up would be to hook up the lights to run off a relay, getting its power directly from the battery. Then tie into the reverse light circuit, at some point. Either up front or at the light, and use this to activate the relay. So when you put teh truck in reverse, it will will activate the relay, thus letting power to flow to the lights.
I am planning on going with fogs, as back up lights, but will wire to a switch, so I can use with the truck in any gear, or even with it turned off.

Then follow the thread above, instead of installing the switch in the cab of the truck, use the truck's reverse lamps to trigger the relay.

I have a 2013 f150. Added led to bumper. Lights work great but my back up sensor does not. I have it wired with relay attached to reverse light on truck. Does anyone have any ideas to get lights and sensor to work. I appreciate any help.

The only common point between the reverse lamps and the park aid is the BCM.

When the truck is put in reverse, the PAM is activated over the Module Communication Network. It is not a common circuit on the newer model year trucks.

This is assuming you are using the truck's reverse lamp circuit, it should be a Blue w/ White strip wire in the stop / turn / tail light housing.

The output of the 7 pin trailer tow adapter is Gray w/ Brown Stripe wire.

The other thing, is to check that you did not accidentally unplug connector C406 at the back of the truck while you were installing the reverse lamps.

Or if the lamps are physically in the "field of vision" of the sensor on the bumper.

Not sure what "doesnt work" means, try elaborating a little more and we might be better suited to offer help.
