No no. I mean how in the picture he has the stock reflector mounted on bolts. I'm guessing its for getting it level and then mounting the projector level. Just wanted to see how it was done. And to make sure my thinking was right.

Have a look at post #29 in that thread. See the holes beneath the bowls? See the bolts (which are fixed to the wood), hold the bowls both level and in alignment over those holes?

Is it becoming clear to you now?

Hint: it starts with a "j" ...

This is a "jig" I built as I have done over ten f150 retrofits, if your only doing one it may not be worth the trouble.

If you want I can make you one and sell it to you, just send 4 payments of 39.95 plus processing to 9105 Hollow Ridge Ln......

I only plan on doing one retro on this truck so prolly won't be doing that whole jig. You know doing it right the first time w/ OEM tuned RX350 projectors

Ok I finally get a day above freezing, lights installed go outside looks good close. Move back and driver side is a lot dimmer, at 25ft it appears to be good but more color band, switch ballast and bulb same thing , so it's in the shield I think. Any suggestion on shield tuning or other ideas.

Could be bulb seating. I know the fx-r are very finicky when it comes to aftermarket bulbs. Swap bulbs and see what happens.. Try shimming the bulb or moving it around to get the hot spot in the middle.
I would honestly go with some OEM CBI's or the new nightbreakers.

X2.

That's why you do ALL yer projector tuning on the bench, hooked up to the converted pc power supply you built for the purpose that's supplying 30+ amps all day long. Bulb seating checks, shield bending, burnishing, lubing.

System burn-in - fer at least 24 hours continuous to pull out any infant mortality issues and ensure the bulbs aren't acting up or shifting.

Includes flappin' them shield mechanisms a couple thousand times to ensure they don't hang after ever'thang is sealed up. I built a li'l circuit that does that - not gonna sit there and do that manually - I'd rather sit back and watch the automation do it

This way - if any component don;t cut the mustard, back to TRS it goes.

It's called Bubba's Redneck Qual'ty Corntrol

Ooorrr take multiple trips out to your vehicle and power them on and test them that way haha. I don't have any of those fancy gadgets you have MGD ha.. I also used 9 v battery to test the shield.
But if you wanna make me one of those contraptions I'll sure take it from ya

I been testing on the bench all winter everything was good, 25ft good, nice cutoff, even lines almost perfect.wasn't until I backed further away that I discovered the loss of beam or pattern.switched bulbs multiple times and reseated so that shouldn't be the issue.went back to bench testing that's when I noticed the thicker color line. I will retry tonite and see what I get. Thanks for the input fellas!!

Hi.

Kudos to you, Sir Jim, fer bench-testing!

Could be a focal point problem not attributable to the bulb seating itself. That leaves a faulty projector or a misaligned lens. Or a distorted one. I pop off all my lenses to have a peek underneath - because I'm an untrusting idiot You can easily swap lenses to check for /eliminate that as a cause.

May need to swap out the projector body - rare, but chit happens.

Good luck.

^^^ Sure. What colour would you like it in?

-Do you want a portable unit that runs from a 9vdc supply?
-Do you want one that hooks up to an existing 12vdc bench supply?
-Do you want dry contacts as the output (so you can hook up whatever voltage source to drive the shield solenoids you wish)?

I found a nice symmetrical 1-second square wave (50% duty cycle) works well. If you prefer a different timebase and/or duty cycle, please specify at time of order, lol.

It may take a while - my job jar AND 'honey-do' list is pegged. I'll ask fer a shipping address via PM when I have it ready (once I have yer preferences).

No charge - yer a good feller.

Wait what? Haha I think I can tell you're serious because you aren't using your normal redneck (no offense) language.

Um idk about those questions, I'm not very electrical savvy.(i know my 120v + stuff and 24v for running your furnace and AC, but not that ha) Tell me what you think. Maybe PM me with details.. I wonder if they will let me send beer thru the mail? I'm not the type of guy that wants something for nothing.

I think MGD covered pretty much everything for ya.. Did you drop the projector or headlight housing? I did that once in my last retro and had to take the whole thing apart to readjust my shield. Thing was only off a c*nt hair but enough to mess it up.
