Matchbox Projector Outpout

Got up against a wall and was checking my projectors. The fogs have a weird kickup on the driversside. Any clue what could cause it?

Fogs

Hi.

Perhaps check the bulb seating - sometimes the H1 bulb has issues with sitting correctly within the projector seat. Worst-case is a misaligned bulb within it's own base.

ETA - just noticed - the cutoff shields are supposed to be flat, non-stepped, so where is that step coming from? ( one projector higher thant the other? ) Also, looks to me like there is also a 'kickup' on the right, but to a lesser extent ...

You have to expect a little less precision / sharpness from a projector this small. I hope they were never dropped - this would alter their 'tuning' ( lens-to-bowl alignment ).

I don't think they were dropped, maybe just once. I'll have to check the aim on them again. Along with the bulb alignment

Ya check bulb seating.
Do you only have one step? Do you have your cut offs crossing. Most of the time you try to keep then straight.

My bad - what I meant to say above is that, TRS indicates that a Matchbox projector's shields have NO step, so one should not be appearing in a wall shot.

Sorry fer the cornfusion.

Cheers

As far as I know the matchbox does have a step, the first gens do anyways. I know there was talk a while back about modding or getting new shields without a step. Mine has a step and they're 2 years old first gens.
Play with the bulb a bit and you can bring down the sides a little. One of the reasons why I hate the M1 bulb, is seating issues. Also as mentioned it won't be a perfect cutoff as the projector is so small. It cannot block all of the light from the big H1 bulb, so there is light leakage. I actually like how the light comes up on the sides it puts a nice glow on the road signs. My FX-R puts out a very sharp cutoff so road signs are hard to see but the matchbox fixes that problem. Now I'm curious how mine look I'll take a picture tonight.

I got these back in 2011, so I'm sure that they have the step in them. I'll line them up and check each one individually tonight. There isn't much horizontal alignment possible in the fogs, so I may just have to live with it.

Powerz - I noticed the same thing driving to work this morning. I could read the street signs a lot easier with the fogs on.

Hi.

Good to know - the current gens are listed as having no step. Which ois probably not a serious issue.

And - you guys are really making me want to do this if for no other reason to enhance signage visibility

AK - please let us know what you find, if anything. Thanks.

Cheers

What does this mean? I can adjust my fogs up and down without problems. Did you trim the upper and lower part of the fog light housing in the bumper?
EDIT: I thought you were talking vertical adjustment. But on a side note did you notice your drivers side fog point more towards the passenger side? On mine I had to shim the projector more to the left before mounting so the light lines up but the projector is not centered in the fog housing like the passenger side is.

It's a huge difference on road signs. But then again maybe the 2nd gens don't have the high arches on the sides like the 1st gens do. So you still won't be able to see the street signs.

I just checked my fogs and I do not have high arches like that, it's a bulb seating problem. With the fog light on just grab the back of the bulb and move it around. See if you move it if it gets better.

That's what it was. I wiggled it around and readjusted it, things are better now.
