DEPO Projectors- Making the projector the low beam??

Ok so I got a set of the Lightning style projector lights as a gift. I was unboxing everything and looking thru the crappy instruction page and realized that the projector is for the high beam?? Who the f designed these? I was thinking of rewiring the harness so the projector is the low beam and the reflector is the high beam. This way I could use HID in the projector and not **** off the world. Anyone ever done this?

That wouldn't work- the projector does not have a cutoff shield. If you make that "low beam" you are going to **** off the world already, HID or not. It is meant to supplement the 9007 in the main reflector, and from the pictures I've seen of that particular lamp, it does a damned good job at it too.

Now, if you want to go desperate measures, I would buy a xenon or bi-xenon projector and modify it to fit the reflector. That way you have proper xenon optics, and another 1750lm of halogen high beam power to supplement it.

I may just install them with the Phillips bulbs that came with it and see what I think. I hate to hack up a brand new set of housings regardless that I didn't buy them.

I wouldn't call it "hacking" but rather "precision engineering" since you are making them much, much better.

What bulb came in the high beam projector? If you want to get some raw power, upgrade the reflector to either a 9007 Sylvania Silverstar Ultra or Philips XtremePower and the projector to either a 9005 Sylvania Silverstar or Philips XtremePower to see some power increase.

It was a Phillips 9005/HB3 in the projector. I do have a set of Silverstar Ultras in my stock housings now. Maybe I can just find a set of Ultras for the 9005 too. Or find some higher wattage 9005 for the projector. I am guessing the Ultra 9007 will be plenty for the reflector since it has a clear face on it now.

Just looked inside the projector and it does have a cutoff shield. Although it's on the bottom instead of the top. Looks like the back of the projector will just unbolt. Wonder if I could take it apart and flip the cutoff shield over.

remember that with mirrors, everything is flipped. Cutoff shield on the bottom = cutoff line on the to when the light comes out. You could put HIRs in that projector for more light but HIDs will just mess it up. The 9005 Silverstarv did not come in an ultra. Its a high beam bulb.

At any rate, how high is the cutoff shield exactly? Can you post some pics of both lamps illuminated and maybe the reflector blocked off?

I can't figure out how to edit on this phone but I just realized this: if you can unbolt that projector, you could probably swap it out with a real bixenon projector

Wow, I was told they didn't make them in Ultras. Let me know how they fare out.

Yeah doesn't look too hard. I imagine I have to remove the grill and then it should be pretty easy from there. =)
