Rear Facing Lights for Trailering?
Rear Facing Lights for Trailering?
Hey guys.
I'm looking for some pics/reccomendations on small lights to mount under the rear bumper and how to mount them.
I'm fishing a lot more at night now and need some help seeing when loading the boat on the trailer. I also have a rearview camera and some extra light wouldn't be bad there either.
I was thinking of wiring the lights into the reverse lights and also having a separate switch that I can use so they come on when I'm in park.
I have a 2010 4X4 Screw.
Anyone done this?
Thanks.

Marshall has a set.... see page 15 of his build ...... https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...w-here-15.html
PM with any questions, I'm sure he'd be happy to tell you what he had to do.

I mounted a set of Hella Optilux 1500 55W fogs to hitch on my '99. The lights are wired to a SPDT switch (on-off-on), which allows the lights to be on w/ reverse - off - on w/ parking lights (see wiring diagram HERE). By wiring them to be on w/ parking lights, they can be on when in park (when the parking lights are on), but if I forget and leave them on, they'll shut off when the parking lights are turned off.

Or you could order a set of these and mount lights to them. SSCCULLY showed these to me and I am going to order a set for my Super Duty in the near future and add some hook up lights in the bed for hooking our 5er up in the dark.

I did the same and for 20 bucks I'm not complaining!

I like the setup but have one question. Aren't the lights vulnerable to getting damages if you had to drive through a ditch off road somewhere or having to drive over something?
BTW: Could show us where and how you mounted your switch. What ever I put in I want it to look like it somewhat came installed from the factory i.e. want it to look nice and not be something that can get bumped into.

No, because the departure angle of the back wheels would strike the bumper hitch first. And for the cleanest install, drilling a flush mount into the dash would be best. Measure twice, cut once!

I mounted the switch to the panel which surrounds the steering column. While it's functional, I'm not real happy w/ how the square switch fits in w/ the rest of the interior. I've located some rotational SPDT switches, and the plan is to move the switch to the cubby hole on the lower dash.
Current SPDT reverse light switch ...
