well i was thinking that a underglow kit would work. but im not sure how bright it would be 3 feet in the air.

Not at all. LEDs don't provide much for actual ground illumination. They are used primarily for markers.

Our F-550 firetruck has four 3" spotlights underneath the running boards. Works wonderful.

I actually just ordered some red and blue led strips to mount behind my air vents. I'm going to see what I can do about hooking them up to some kind of rotary dimmer behind my temperature control in my truck, so that the gradually change from blue to red and vice versa depending on whether I have the heat on or the a/c on. I'll be sure to take pics when the lights/dimmer actually get here and I can start doing some work. May end up starting a new thread to document it!
