So, bottom line is that we "should" stay with DOT approved systems for the best quality?
Thanks

Great write-up!!!:thum bsup:

This is the reason I stick with DOT bulbs and major manufacturer such as Phillips, Ostrom, Narva to name a few.

I used the FX-R stage III kit for $320. If you have a dremel, its super easy. just cut away a little bit and keep putting the projector in, see where you have to trim some more, etc. its not hard at all, just time consuming.

I found these on Ebay 2 years ago for around $135, I liked the black headlight with the halo, had no ambition(or money) to go the HID/Xenon route, but kudos to those of you who do it the proper way and don't blind the crap out of the rest of us on the road...The punisher emblems were just for fun and look sandblasted on during the day

I would like to get some HIDs, but I'm not sure exactly what I want to get. I was thinking about getting a set of projectors and putting ~5000k HIDs in them. Would this work good? I know the retrofit would be the best, but I dont have the money nor the ***** to cut into a set of headlights.

This would probably be best in a separate thread, so as to no clutter this FAQ thread.

How much were you looking to spend on "projectors" + HIDs? Depending on how much, it might just be better to save a bit more up, and do it the right way with proper HID projectors.

By "projectors," I take it you mean aftermarket headlights with projectors in them, usually found on ebay? Generally, and depending on how much they are, it could range from decent halogen projectors with halfway decent cutoff with HIDs, to craptastic output. I've seen people on here post output pix of some aftermarket projector headlights, and even with HIDs, it seemed like you'd get more light shining a flash light in front of you...

Like I said in my first post, those cheap projectors utilize a crappy designed reflector bowl and probably a cheap plastic lens. Not to mention halogen projectors in main have a MUCH more narrower beam than xenon projectors, as you can see here- and these are OEM Valeo 3" halogen Fresnel projectors offered on Toyota's flagship Avalon and Solara models!

And putting PnP HIDs in a halogen projector is asking for trouble. Just save the $$$ and do a retro. It really isnt hard. Its just time consuming. I'd rather do another retrofit than change a set of spark plugs its that easy.
