'07 Intermittent AC problem
'07 Intermittent AC problem
Hey All,
'07 w/manual HVAC controls and 95k.
A few weeks ago it was in the 90s and humid, I was on the highway w/the AC on and it started to warm up in the cabin.
I started playing around w/the controls (max ac, fresh air button, temp, etc.) and nothing happened, still warm.
The next day it never got cold.
The 3rd day I brought it to the mechanic and he had it inside w/no ambient wind and the truck blew cold air (51F) for over an hour and the under hood temp was 97.
He added 4 oz of refrigerant and got the temp down to 47F.
All was fine for over a week when I was coming home two nights ago, it was 80 outside and after about 15 miles, it started to warm up again.
Been working fine for a couple days now.
Any thoughts?
When I start the truck, I hear something under the hood making a "loose" noise or rattle.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

might be the internals of you ac compressor going bad. I had the same rattle and similar problem on my 2005 4.6l buddy of mine who is a master tech drove it and you could hear the problem at the light. The valves arent opening and closing properly and in synch.
It could be your blend door actuator motor going bad. They will make a 'rattling' nose sometimes. If it's going out it could be opening up on you allowing warm air to enter the system. Common problem with the 07's and 08's. Had to replace mine in the 07 I used to have.....something to check anyway.
Thanks Project SHO89,
I was washing my engine today when I heard a clicking sound.
The truck was off for about a 1/2 hour.
I saw the compressor pulley clutch going in an out making a clicking noise!
Again, the truck was off and I haven't used the A/C in a couple of days.
What can cause this? Can I replace the clutch only or do I need to replace the whole compressor?
Can this last a long time or is it definitely on its way out?
The local dealer wants $800 all in for a new compressor.

A year and 16k miles later the problem just happened again. AC blew cold when I started the truck, went to the atm and started driving and the air got warm. Popped the hood and the compressor pulley wasn't spinning w/the ac on.
I've been reading about relays but where and how to diagnose? Continuity?
Any help would be appreciated. I will try and tap it while the truck is running w/the ac on and see what happens. Of course it is 90 today and no ac sucks!
I'll re-post once I try to tap the pulley.

pulled the relay and it fought me pretty good, had to use plyers to get it. tons of corrosion on the 4 pins (white & green) and the socket (?) was pretty crappy too. used some contact cleaner/lubricant. the relay has a melted hole on the side of it!!!!!!! on the vertical side facing the headlights......my local ford dealer doesn't have one and neither does O'reilly. they both want $30 bucks for it...
