Question R-12 Freon

Since all of my vehicles are now newer than 1995, they all have R-134a coolant in them and I no longer can use my remaining F-12 Freon. Does anyone know if it is legal or illegal for an individual to sell unused Freon?

It's "probably" illegal in some respects, but I imagine it's like anything else, just find somebody who wants it, sell it, spend the money and don't advertise it.

Sell it. You won't get the price you think you'll get, because direct drop in replacement refrigerants for R12 are available. R12 is not illegal.

I'll pay $20 per can for as many cans as you wish to sell.

I wouldn't be stocking up on R12 or paying $20 a lb for it either. There are 4 HCFC refrigerants to replace it and they are one hellova lot cheaper. R401A,R401B,R406A,R409A. If you want 2 30lb cylinders of virgin R12 for $20 a lb I'll sell you both of them.

All I have is the 30 pound cylinder with about 25-26 pounds of "virgin" R-12. I'm thinking of putting an ad in the local paper, but who knows. It certainly is doing me no good.

I'm pretty sure you need a license to both buy and sell R-12. . .

If you put an ad in the paper, you won't get in trouble. The EPA has bigger fish to fry and spare manpower for 30 lbs of 12. You are selling not dumping, they could care less.

I know you need a license to buy R12 but I'm not sure if you need to have a license to sell it. I had to buy a 30lb can of R12 for my shop. It costed me $1,028. I'll buy your R12 for $20 a pound.

Mainly have a question about my '97 F150 AC. Compressor clutch cyles with 3 sec on and 3 sec off even with AC turned full on and fan full on, and it's hot here in Phoneix. High pressure and low pressure lines are quite hot and cold as they should be, but because of the cycling get little cooling particularly when it's above 110. Is this a blockage, or is there a valve in the climate control not working properly?

Also have three 1lb (14 oz) cans of R12 which I am not likely to usel, with one hose and connectors. All weigh full, with negligable rust.

Call Jesus! We have a resurrection! Gotta love a noob that brings up a six year old thread with their very first post. Probably close to a record.

There's a classifed section on the forum. Use it.

Your 97 is probably undercharged due to a leak. Take it to a shop for testing and any needed repairs.
