Question Blend Door Actuator and ....?

Vehicle:2006 F150 Harley w/ Climate Control

Symptoms:
1) Setting the CC to anything between 19C - 32C I get full blown heat at full blower. The only way to get cooler air is to set the CC at 16C and get A/C
2) HVAC console in my dash has no illumination for any of the buttons. The only lighting is the digitized display of the set temperature, and the little red heated seat lights when they're on.. all other buttons have no illumination
3) Steering wheel controls or Fan +/- and Temp +/- do not provide any ****ionality.. no communication from these buttons to the HVAC

Resolution:
1) Assuming (from trolling the forums) that my problem with 1) above is the blend door actuator needing replacement? I'm out of warranty, so this is a dealer repair, or is this something I could manage myself and save some $?

2) & 3) I've popped the dash trim off and un-seated / re-seated the HVAC console from the 2 wire harnesses... thinking I would 'reboot' the HVAC, which actually worked 2x from an illumination perspective. Now however, this doesn't seem to fix anything.

Thoughts / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Dealer Update

As a follow up, I sent my local dealer a note asking if TSB 08-23-6 (which relates to the blend door actuatory) would be applicable, and naturally it is not as my vehicle is out of warranty.

He advised me that it will cost $94.95+tax for them to diagnos what the issue is, plus parts and labour to fix anything.

I'm really not interested in that, if I can avoid it, or if I can get member feedback on my issue and with any luck procure the parts and do the repair myself...

Appreciate any feedback anyone has to offer on this..

Thanks!

Mine was covered under warranty, but I bought the part and installed it myself. The location is a bit of a challenge, but I did it in under an hour.

You will need to work with a small box end wrench on 2 of the three screws, like what comes in an ignition set. I wish I could tell you what size, but I don't remember now. It's no doubt metric, but ignition wrenches come in 1/64" sizes, so something will always fit.

There is a large wire harness over the motor that you will need to move out of the way. It's not a difficult thing to do, and I don't think I could have done mine without pulling the harness tabs out of the holes in the dash brackets to make more room for my hand.

You will need to remove the radio and the glove box. Neither is that difficult to achieve. The part itself is around $25. Let me know if you need a part number or additional instructions.

The actuator motor will only fix the blend door from hunting and regulating the correct temperature. I will not fix other issues with your EATC. My blend door would make all sorts of racket from hunting for the right position and blow heated air when it should have been cold air (end of summer, early fall). The new motor lets it hold a steady temperature and more racket from hunting. It sounds like part of your problem.

Thanks Windsor..
Yeah, it almost sounds like I need to replace the actuator, and possibly the actual HVAC unit in my dash.. or who knows.. maybe it's in the wiring/harness that connects to the HVAC unit in dash.

I guess I'm struggling with the fact that I can get heat/AC albeit not moderated properly.. but if I want to fix it through the dealer I'm certain it's going to cost me a small fortune, and I really don't have a bunch of extra cash sitting around to spend.

What to do.. what to do...

It sounds like it's working without some items lit up. When mine is on auto, I think that's the only light that's lit, but the LED display shows the temp setting. If it's a modulation issue, it's likely the motor. I really though my CD player was crapping out, it made so much noise.
