Question Defroster problems 2004 FX4 new style

Hello all, and first off thanks in advance for the help.
Now the problem....
THIS IS NOT THE VACUUM STYLE SYSTEM!
My blower won't change from panel to floor or defrost. It is always on panel. I've taken out both of the mode door actuators and they both appear to be working. My question is should the "upper" (which should be the panel/defrost door) move freely by hand when the actuator is removed. I cannot move it at all by hand. The "lower" one moves freely by hand with the motor out. I can take pictures if needed, but wondering if anyone here knows if this is an issue with a stuck door/flap or if there is something else to look into before ripping out the whole dashboard to remove the heater case.
Thank you very much for your help.
Steve

I believe the panel/defrost/floor mode door is under the dash on drivers side. And the other door you are referring to is the outside air/recirculate door located behind the radio? Then there is a 3rd door with auto climate control called the temp door, it is under or behind the glovebox.

Please confirm. Pics would be good also.

Okay, first I need to clarify that this has the console shift, so it is different (supposedly) than the non console trucks. I'll attach a pic if I can figure it out here. The blend door is more behind the glove box in my truck. So there are three door actuator motors. Two on the drivers side (one upper, one lower) and one that controls the blend door (more behind the glove box.) The recirculate one shouldn't be the case here at all, and SHOULD be behind the glove box as well, correct? It shouldn't be AFTER the blend door, that wouldn't make sense at all.... The door that seems to be stuck is the upper door on the drivers side. Which seems to be the defrost/floor switch. You will see a rod connected to this one in the pic. Also the lower one only moves about 1/8 turn or so, is this normal?
Thanks again.
Steve

Do you have the automatic climate control? I have the Ford workshop manuals and the number of doors is different for manual climate and auto climate.

Pic did not work by the way.

Sorry again, Manual heater controls. Still can't get the pic to work. Gonna try hosting it here instead of Picasa.

Let's try this.....

They are hard to see since the power pedal motor/plug is in the way. not the easiest to get in there with your fingers and a wrench let alone a camera!

What is the bottom one then? And should the "mode door" move freely without the motor on it?

According to the workshop manual the air inlet door is behind the "instrument panel" the mode door is access "underneath the LH side of the instrument panel" and the temp blend door is behind glovebox.

I would replace the mode door first.

Wait is the mode door actuator different that the actual mode door? If the actuator is good how do you replace the mode door itself?

my mistake the bottom one is the defrost/floor motor, the upper one is the panel door motor. but it sounds like your problem is with the bottom motor.

No Paralyzer the upper motor controls air inlet from outside the bottom motor controls air to panel/defrost/and floors. at least for my 07.
