AC Blows Warm and Cycles On and Off

I recently bought a 97 F150 with the 4.2L V6. The AC worked off and on for the first couple days, but now it only blow warm air. I can also hear the compressor cycling on and off every couple of seconds when the AC is on. The compressor is new along with some of the lines. I believe the freon was replaced not too long ago. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what might be wrong with my AC?

sounds like you need to check the blend door operation. Most give up around 10 years old. Check this section of the message area for details.

Uh, no. If the compressor had been reported as cycling normally, then yes (probably).

He has a short-cycling compressor. That means an undercharge and probably a leak. An undercharged system cannot provide any cooling for the HVAC system.

I have the same problem with my 97. It was recharged by the dealer about two/three years ago (It cost me over $129) because it was doing the same as theColonel's.

Now its doing it again
Can theColonel and I hit up an Autozone and buy a $49 charging kit?

Don't feel too bad. I have 2005 that does the exact same thing and the dealer says it is within "normal" specs.

Thanks for all of the advice. It sound like the compressor is short cycling. I will try the $20 option for refilling the freon first and go from there.

I had the dealership tell me the same thing with the same exact condition on my 2004, the second time I took it back they finally determined the compressor was bad. Go figure! New compressor, nice cold air!

It probably is cycling off the low pressure switch which means you need to add freon
