Electronic climate control/hot air

Hi Guys,

I have a 2001 expedition with the electronic climate control. You can set the temp to 60 and it still blows hot air, the fan speed increases but temp will not get cold. The compressor does not kick on either. I was thinking it may be low on coolant. Anyone else have ideas?

I'm going to put some r134 and an oil charge in it today. I'll let you know if it works.

You need to put gauges on the A/C system before just adding fridge.

Could this be a Blend door actuator problem ?

Yes, it might be.

If you are stock on HOT, then yes. If you can control the temperature somewhat but it never gets COLD with the AC on (only gets to outside temp or so), then you probably have an AC-specific fault, ie, the compressor clutch isn't engaging for any of a number of reasons.

I tried to add some R134 and the system would not take it. The compressor does not come on either. I checked all of the fuses and relays they are all good. I don't have a clue where to go from here.

I am having an issue with my Elec climate control too, on my 04, It has to be on 90 to get heat and on 60 it still does not cool. The compressor cycles on and off but very often, almost like the temp sensor thinks it is 60 in the cab when it is actually blazing hot. Has anyone replaced the temp thermister???

Compressor short-cycling is almost always due to improper refigerant charge, usually low.

hate to bring back a dying thread, however I started having this problem this morning.

I tried to turn the heat on this morning, because it was kind of cold. No matter what I set the temp to...it felt like it was set to 90 degrees. For a split second, i was able to set it to 60 and feel the A/C. When changed back to 68, it felt like it immediately went back to 90.

My 97 F150 just started doing this also....seems to me something isn't opening and closing properly in the dampers....more investigating needed.
