Noise when AC turns on
Yesterday when I turned on my AC it made a loud clunking noise. It did it again today, but it seems to only do this when I leave work. When I turn it on first thing in the morning it doesn't make the clunking noise.
Is this something with the compressor, am I low on freon or what? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Mine has made the same noise a few times and I posted it at
www.flatratetech.com
which is a website run by Ford techs.I was told it was freon in a liquid form settled in the compressor. Not good! It might be overcharged.

I don't think it's overcharged because it's never made that noise before and I haven't had the AC serviced since I have owned the pickup (almost 4 years). I will check out the website though.
The two times that it made the noise it had been sitting for 9+ hours at work and it was 95 degrees +. It hasn't made a loud noise lately when I've turned it on, although you can hear it pull slightly on the engine when it kicks on.

I had mine recharged and it makes no noise at all. Before, it sounded like soft hammering or something, also made squeeks when clutch was on. Small noises, but nothing now. How cold is the air blowing?
It still makes the noise occasionally. I'm not sure what to think. The replies at the ford teck website said it could be slugging. Some of the freon is liquid or something. I don't know much about air conditioning.
I'm thinking I may need a recharge. How often should a system be recharged? It still cools, but it seems to take a while. Then again it's 102 degrees here. How much does a recharge cost?

In Canada, it's like 85 buck after taxes and 1 lb. of refrigerant, but like 59-69.95 for the inspection (mandatory by law). It should be cold, like 35-45 degrees less than outside. Have it checked.
