Possible A/C clutch problem please help!!
I have a 98 F150 that started to act up near the end of last year. It would blow cold then hot, back and forth for no set times. So I did a little reading here and decided I needed to charge the system. Well needless to say I left it until now, but now the compressor wouldn't kick in so I tapped the front while running with a piece of wood and it kicked on. It still wasn't cold so I proceeded to charge the system and it was ice cold. This was 2 days ago, on my way home today I tried it out but it would only blow hot air. So when I got home I checked to see if the compressor was running and it wasn't. So I gave it a couple of taps and it kicked on and the air started to cool. Does this seem to indicate that the clutch is the problem? or am I missing something? I will do some more searches on this but if any body has had any similar problems please let me know any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

There's an intermittent open in the field coil assembly of the clutch. You really should replace all three parts though, the field coil, pulley, and flexplate assembly.
