Heater control

My heater core son my 97 F150 sprang a leak a few weeks ago so I had to remove the dash to replace it. I thought it worked fine but now I notice that sometime hot air will only come out and somtimes only cold air will come out, it doesn't matter which way I turn the ****. Did I break the **** or temperature control when I was replacing the core? Did I somehow put the door in the core housing back wrong? Help me, this is driving me crazy!!!

Remove the **** and look at the part that goes over the input shaft of the hot/cold rheostat. Chances are you will find that it is probably cracked. Less than $10.00 to replace.

Unhappy

Thanks, but now I have another question. This morning I started the truck and, didn't turn any *****, and smoke came out of some wires are located under the heater core box, but more towards the middle. Is that the actuator I keep hearing about for the blend door I keep hearing about? Did it just fry? If so, why?

Thanks

when the heater core leaks, the coolant goes right into the actuator. When I do heater cores, I replace the core, the blend door, because they crack where the actuator goes in and you have to pull it all apart again to replace it. It only costs about $35, and I replace the actuator, because the coolant goes into it. It may not have any problems at the time, but in a little while as the coolant makes it's way further into it and reaches the motor it shorts it out. So there should always be 3 parts replaced when doing a heater core. The core, the blend door, and the actuator. Not to mention the coolant flush and checking the cooling system for electrolisys.

Thanks. I pulled the acuator yesterday, which was alot easier to get to than the core, and sure enough, it was fried. I opened it up and coolant residue all over. I wish I new about this site before all this started. Thanks for your help. BTW, I did check to see if the blend door was free and it is. Hopefully the door will list a while. I just don't have the time or energy to pull the dash again.

94 F150 replace thermostat, heater Core, didn't have no heat, old core 3 times heavier than new, however still not heat. Cable control doesn't want to turn all the way to the right at first but it will eventually. Still no neat I believe something is wrong with the temp control door. How do I replace this?
