R12 to R134?

Does anyone know when Ford made the switch? I assumed I had R12 but I was reading a manual last night saying they switched in 1984. I have a 1988 F-150 4X4. I am not haveing a problem but would like to have input on this. Thanx

You should still be R-12...knock on wood if you don't have a problem...'cause if you do...well retrofit is the word you'll hear...of course your pretty close to the border so you can just take it over and get a shot real quick but what ever you do don't tell anyone what you did...did you know that the 3rd most smuggled item after Cocaine and Marijauna is(yes it actually beats Herion) is R-12 or Difloroldichloromethane...back in 1990 I bought 3 30# jugs for 80 dollars each...I've only used 1/2 a jug in 14 years...what it is now? 850 a 30# jug? wish I'd bought more

Shipping would be a bitch.

The retro doesn't bother me. I can do that in an afternoon I think.

Might be a long afternoon. Comp., dryer, complete system flush and oriface tube. At least an hour on vac. pump and then recharge w/ oil and leak check. Still beats sitting in AZ summer heat with windows down.
