Adding 1/8" aux to stock head unit?

Anyone done this around here?

Found some videos on YouTube as far as the how to. But any links as to what I should buy?

Thanks.

if you crack open the radio and take out the cd player you find this:

lout, rout, and agnd. everything you need to solder an aux cable for a make shift aux plugin. only other thing youd need to do is burn a blank cd that plays nothing and have the cd play while using an aux device.

Thanks for the tips. Why would you need to play a blank cd though when the stock unit has an aux button? I've seen people add 1/8" aux inputs to these that work with the aux button. Maybe that is to be soldered at different points? I appreciate your time, I just feel there has to be a more practice way than to have to play a blank cd. Especially since there's an aux button on the face of the unit.

There's a company on eBay that sells these stock head units with the aux plug installed. They just really up the price and it's not worth paying. I'd like to know exactly how they do it.

These are complete plug n play. Aux button works for the input and the Jack is cleanly installed right on the face.

This is exactly what I'd prefer to do.

Unfortunately not. The company on eBay that does this doesn't want to share any info.

Either way, this is the route I want to go. I just need to figure out how to do it.

i dont see how they got the aux button to work. ive been trying to figure that out but cant find anything. you should make sure that the aux port works off of the aux button because it looks like they custom made this set up.

otherwise its a straight forward swap. take the old one out and put the new one in, plug and play. not sure if the ecm needs to be reprogrammed or anything (anti-theft feature on some vehicles).

I've been reading up on this on some other forums. You can connect the input jack to the plug on the back of the radio that carries the audio from the CD player into the radio. The problem is that it combines the sound from both inputs. The way that they get around it is to play a CD with no sound on it when they want to use the input jack. But there should be a way to put a relay on the sound input to the radio that would completely disconnect the CD output. Many audio jacks have a simple switch in them that opens when a plug is inserted. It shouldn't be difficult to use that to control the relay. I will post a drawing of the audio input connector on the radio later. I saved it for future reference but don't have time to look for it right now.

They confirmed it does work with the aux button. 2008 trucks even came with the PIE adapter with an 1/8 plug and that worked with these radios too, also utilizing the aux button. I just don't know exactly how they were wired and those are also more expensive.

After doing a little searching, there are many options that use the aux button. The cd trick really isn't needed.

I kind of want to find the original ford one that came on 08 f150s and has the aux port at the top of the dash but that's probably pricey.

I don't want a cable just hanging out. I'd like to have an actual 1/8" female plug mounted so it looks cleaner.

Going to keep searching.

its needed if you dont want to spend that much money just for an aux outlet. ill probably end up just doing the cd trick. everything will be hidden and the aux port will be flush mounted with a usb insert next to it for charging.

I found one on eBay for $69. I don't think that's too terrible of a price with all things considered.
