apparently the life span of a stock cd player is

6 years.

my truck is a 03 and i have had it for a whole 3 weeks before the stock cd player kicks the bucket. so i ask. what do you guys recommend for a good one. i dont want to spend a arm and a leg. i would like a unit that completley fills in the space of the old one. i would like cd/dvd combo player with touch screen.

I'm in the same boat. Just spent 3 hours last night & this morning fishing my CDs out of my unit. Luckily I was able to retrieve them all, 3 of them were my Springsteen collection so I would have been really pi**ed if they would have been ruined. Don't know wether its' worth getting serviced or not. will have to see what kind of reccomendations you get for a new unit.

I noticed my '04s factory 6 disk is giving me issue on receiving new CDs, it doesn't pull it in just by pushing it in, you need to push them in a little bit harder.

I just picked up a Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD for a little over $400 on eBay. It is an awesome deck. You can get the AVH-P3100DVD for around $325 to 350 if you search.
