I found the mounting kit local but could not find the wiring harness setup for the factory woofer so I had to order it from crutchfield. That was on monday....

And SHES IN!!!

I am actually really happy. I had this unit in my old truck and finally got around to putting it in the fx4. With the factory sub I get that pop when it turns on but I ordered the piece from smintech to get rid of that. (not too good at soldering)

Everything works and the unit gives alot more control over the factory sub. For an 8 it actually hits pretty good now. I may just keep it as is for a while instead of upgrading all the speakers, sub, amps etc...

Looks great. Its amazing how good the factory system can sound with a nice head unit! I think I'll be content with my factory stuff for a little while....I'm trying to find a NEW JL Audio 500/5 to start as my building block.

yeah when I finally upgrade everything I will be going with JL amps. I am thinking the 1000 or 500/1 for the sub and they have a 4 channel also I believe is 500/4

If I can't find a 500/5 I'll to the 300/4 and the 500/1 (which is what I had in my old car and sold....that I should have kept!)

Looks great! I also have the D3 and its just sitting in my room waiting to be installed. I've been looking for everything that I need for the install. Do you have a list of everthing that you needed or possibly the websites you bought them from?

Its very easy. Just go to crutchfied and enter your truck year make model etc... It will tell you which wiring harness and mounting bracket you need. If you have an 07 + you will need an antena adapter. If you have the factory sub, I recommend the smintech 7805 5v regulator to get rid of the pop when you turn the stereo on. You can buy the stuff from radioshack but I suck at soldering so I figured the 12 bucks is worth it.

Ok thanks I'll have to look into that. How did the install go, was it pretty much straight forward? If I buy the regulator to get rid of the pop does that mean i won't have to solder anything? Sorry for all the questions.

if you buy the one from sminntech then technically you dont have to solder anything. You can crimp the whole wiring harness together if you want, which is what I did.

Also before you do everything do the bypass on the navigation. You have to move the mute wire to an empty slot on the same harness. Avic411 has pictures. Then you ground the parking brake wire and the mute wire. Voilla!!! Now you can watch movies while driving, errr ummmmm, now you can change the destination address on the fly without having to pull over.

if you need help let me know.

When I installed my double din in my 2006 i got this and it worked perfectly:

Scosche FD23B 2004-Up Select Ford Harness <- Wiring harness
Scosche FD1426B Double ISO DIN Kit for 2004-Up Ford <- Dash Kit

Got them from Amazon.com you can probably get them cheaper elsewhere

You can also confirm the part numbers at http://www.scosche.com/

I think its the same. You might need an antenna adapter. The harness I used had a few wires that i did not use (roughly 5 or so), possibly for the higher end stock headunits. I had the 6 disc CD changer, nothing fancy.

This is what i found from Scosche, hope it helps
