Will it Work?

I have a 99 f-150 with a factory radio. It only has the radio and tape player. I want to upgrade to a new one with a single CD built right into it like the newer pickups. Can I get a radio with the CD from Ford that will fit into the spot the old one takes up? Is one with a CD the same size as one without it? And if it is the same size and if it will work will the connector hook right up or will i have to change wires around?

It should fit, but then again I am basing my answer on other vehicles I have seen. Manufacturers usually make one harness that will support different radios that vary throughout each trim of the vehicle line. For instance, my friend use to own a '94 Acura Integra that only came with a cassette player. I gave him my factory in-dash CD unit that came out of my '96 Honda Accord, and since Honda manufactures Acura in the states, it fit and worked perfectly. Another example is that the newer Ford vehicle all have similar HUs, and some can even be upgraded to MP3 Audiophile units if the customer desired. As far as fit is concerned, if it looks like it will fit, then chances are you should have no problem. Try removing your stock HU to examine and check to see what the wiring harness looks like. Then, check the donor unit and compare the two; if they look the same, just do the swap.

jdtech65...don't try and buy a ford deck with a cd player...ford will charge you 2x-3x more than if you went buy an aftermarket deck. Plus even a low end aftermarket will be 10x better than any factory deck. you can then pick up a mounting kit to fill in the excess space that a aftermarket deck will create. you'll have better sound, more options and a kooler look...its a win-win situation.

The 7700 was a good model. I am very partial to my 3500 and 6800... I also have an 1100 floating around somewhere...
