Hi All, I have a 6-cd player in my Fx4. I thought it was a Audiophile unit? I am not sure any more. How can I tell if it is? Thanks.........

I believe that the Audiophile unit has the subwoofer under the rear seat.

The radio has 3 plug holes in the rear not 2 if it's Audiophile.

Look under the left rear seat if you have audiophile there will be a black box taking up all the room under the left rear seat the sub and amp are in that box.

Like I thought, I have tools under the passenger rear. And nothing under the driver rear either. Oh well, is it possible that I have the 3rd plug on the rear of the HU? If not, which it looks like. Will it take much to wire this unit up with a subwoofer and amp? Thanks..........

It doesn't take much to hook the factory stereo up to a subwoofer/amp. I installed a powered subwoofer in my FX4 yesterday in about 2 hours. Most amps have "speaker level" inputs. You just tap off of the front speaker wires. I have the non-audiophile 6-disc CD/MP3.

In my case, I built a new cable to interface between the stereo head unit, the truck wiring harness and the amp's wiring harness. You can buy a harness that connects to the stereo head unit and another harness that will connect to the truck's wiring harness. Both were at Wal-Mart for about $7 each (Metra 70-5520 & 71-5520). I connected the two harnesses directly except for the front speakers, battery input and switched input. These I attached 16-14 guage bullet pins. The amp's cable was designed to be spliced into a harness using bullet pins. It was just plug-n-play.

If you don't mind cutting into the truck's wiring harness, there was plenty of slack to splice in the amp's cable without buying any adapters.

I think only Audiophile units support RDS. If you push and hold the menu button for 3 to 5 seconds, another menu pops up for song titles and stuff.
