lightning upper pulley
lightning upper pulley
ive read in a few posts that if us 2002 owners upgrade to the lightning upper that it doesnt void the warranty - anyone have anything to back this up? also, will i have to get a new belt, and get my chip reprogrammed for this as well? would like to know, cant have enough power.
thanks
thanks
I am not sure whether that is true but common sense says no. If you change the pulley and something goes wrong...they will automatically be searching for something to blame it on.
That is incorrect, if you change the pulley and the pulley is determined to have caused the problem, then Ford can deny the warranty claim.
Having said that, why would you want to change the upper pulley? Changing the lower pulley is easier, and makes more sense.

quite a few guys on the other site and a couple on this site (not exactly sure who it was, can't remember) but they have had the dealership change teh upper pulley to a Lightning one so they could keep their warranty, because Ford themselves did the upgrade.
here's one member who did it. towards the bottom of this thread

Hmmm. This thread just gave me an idea. What if I call around the SVT dealerships here and find out if they will cover it under warranty.
There's a few guys that I know that have Ls and they take them to the same dealership that I bought it from. I'll keep you guys posted.

thanks chester
i'm still waiting for you to snap some awsome pics of the L tails at night though to make the pics i took look like crap
anyway, thats a good point. regular dealers probably won't mess with it at all, but SVT dealers you'd have a better chance of it, cuz regular dealers can't sell Lightnings, only certified SVT dealers

Update: For HD owners in the Bay Area, SF listen up.
Shamrock Ford, Dublin - mod unfriendly - 02 F-150 Harley-Davidson
Ford Store, San Leandro - mod unfriendly - 01 F-150 XLT Screw
Frontier Ford, San Jose - mod unfriendly - 96 F-250
These are the dealerships that are SVT certified, and they were not at all happy when I started arguing about mods. I targeted these dealers since I bought a vehicle from them in the past.
Seems like no one in my vicinity are willing to work on a truck that has / had mods like chip and pulley. Anything else they don't really care much.

Does it require new belt or anything else or is it a bolt and go?
If it makes us equal to the L then it is 40hp.
Are there no other differences between HD and L engines?
That would be sweeeet.

do a search, there are quite a few difference between the HD and L's.
upper pulley's
longer exhaust on HD's and needs to go over axle=more restrictive
smaller lower valance opening so less air to the intercooler (thats why the bumper gap is so big on teh HD's to compensate some)
different chip programs
and i think the intake hole on the inside of the fender is smaller on the HD's, not totally sure on this last one though
and there are a few other things with the engine that i can't remember, but also other things such as the 2 piece steel driveshaft on the HD as opposed to the 1 piece aluminum on the L
o yeah, and the biggest thing....rougly 600 more lbs

The speculation is that the Ls are tunned differently (because the different pulley) as well. There is also some speculation that the different size holes in the air dams (ours have a smaller hole) allows even less air across the intercooler.
Wasn't there something about our drive shafts? Ours are two piece (Ls are not) not sure about that one though.
EDIT: Damn, H356 beat me to it (and more thorough as well)
